When upgrading from xp to vista will all the programs you have installed previously still be there? like in the same places and crap, or will I have to reinstall all my apps? I know some apps wont work or need to be uninstalled before upgrading, but will the ones that work be deleted?

I have upgraded from xp to vista. You don't loose the programmes, they just don't recognise the computer anymore. You have to reauthorise the lot again, ie re enter all code keys. It took me a couple of days to sort out all the bugs, but its worth it. Don't be a Luddite, go vista!

Do you really need to upgrade to Vista, or do you think you have to.

So many people like XP that Microsoft is continuing to sell it through June 08, and will offer non-technical support until 2014. Dell has ordered another shipment of computers with XP!

Vista is o.k. but takes a little learning. It is also very large, takes time to load, and uses a lot of memory. Trust me, 512mb is not enouigh. Just invested in an additional memory chip.

As to what will work and what will not, you can contact the manufacturer of the software to inquire whether or not it will run on Vista or if the manufacturer is prepared with a fix.

In any case, you should backup any files you want to some sort of external storage -- an external H.D. or flashdrive.

I honestly have to ask why you would even "upgrade" to vista. It's takes more system resources, runs slower on the same hardware and major compatability issues with alot of peripherals and in general is not as capable as XP.

You have to reinstall your software and some of it will not work with Vista.
