I don't believe killing animals for food is wrong, however I do believe modern farming methods are wrong. Most people don not know that even behind milk and free range egg production there is cruelty. Male chicks, when hatched are thrown in a skip. Male calves are shot or turned into veal. And cows are maltreated through bad management such as removing their calves, and overworking them.
When I try and talk to people about these things they switch off. They say they care but that they can't afford organic meat. They refuse to believe drinking milk is unnatural or cruel. Some say they don't care at all. People treat me as awkward, meddling, annoying and no fun.
They just want me to shut up and go away. But millions of animals are being tortured. If someone touches a pet dog in anyway society is up in arms. Yet they consume meat, eggs and milk and don't care. Countries that eat dog meat are called cruel yet many farm animals live in similar conditions- muck and deprivation....?

Flex vegan- I agree with the person that wrote that post on a couple of points. I do believe vegetarians and vegans are more intelligent than most people. Why? Because they are sensitive, they can see that we are no different to other animals. They can seen something is plainly wrong and they feel hurt. People that don't care or feel hurt belong frankly, to a society that has lost the plot.
We deserve to be instinctively feared- as we are- by every animal on this planet.
We have a lot to say because people never listen. We see what is really going on and noone cares. We get angry and go on the warpath, out of love for those poor animals. And then we get branded as annoying, offensive, crazy etc, and get it thrown back in our faces.
If you see the answer I've written to another vegan/veggie question you can see my views on eating meat and diary. I'm not an extreme veggie or vegan- I'll eat farm eggs and organic local meat. I think that is perfectly acceptable, natural, realistic an

We are NOT made to drink milk- if you are honestly believing that and using it against me- you are NOT going to win, buddy.
Milk is a substance secreted by mammals for their young. No mammal drinks milk again after it is weaned. Except humans. And then we drink the milk of another species. If you think about it it is actually very gross. A cow? Have you seen them? Covered in poo? Their calves are taken away and the males shot so we can drink it. Are you saying that's okay? Many people are allergic to milk, and it is not the only way to obtain calcium. It does not have to be consumed to be healthy That is a rediculous claim since we would naturally not even have access to it. So our bodies have not developed to drink it. As I said, many people are allergic and cannot digest it properly.

To the person who said my facts are wrong- they are not. I have researchedit a lot. You haven't.
To the chef below who uses veal and fois gras. that utterly disgusts me. There is no such thing as ethical production of these things. veal is aneamic calf meat, the calf was took from its mother and raised chained in a box. The fois gras ducks were force fed through tubes until their livers swelled and the became gravely ill. They never saw water.
You are a bad person for using these foods in your restaurant. Deny it, get angry, retaliate, I don't care. You are.
If I could get my hands on you I'd cut your balls off, fry them in garlic and make you eat them.

To peggo- I get my facts from the many websites, organisations, charities and experience.
Cows ARE overworked. they are OVERMILKED. Veggies and vegans do not want to be annoying, and are not out just to tell you you are wrong, bad, and change you. We are just so upset with the cruelty of animals that we know is going on- and we HAVE to try and help them.
Dairy cows are bred to produce massive loads of milk which puts strain on them. Their udders become distended, they are impregnated every year to continue milk flow, then their calves are taken away at a few days old. This is very traumatic, and WRONG. Male calves are shot or become veal. It has been calculated that producing milk puts on them is equivalent to 6-7 hours of jogging a DAY! The huge milk loads takes so much out of them and they become like skeletons.

I don't hate vegans and vegetarians. I respect their choices, and expect them to respect mine.
But it's the ones that try so hard to push their views on others that make people dislike the whole "group" of vegans/vegetarians, which isn't fair.

It's because you're spending so much effort trying to convince them that they should change their ways. Nobody likes to hear that they're wrong, especially if they don't agree with your perspective. If you spend all of your free time trying to convince people that what they're doing is wrong (not matter what the subject), they will continue to see you as awkward, meddling, annoying and no fun. Imagine how uncomfortable you would be if your coworker brought you a hamburger for lunch every day - and then told you that you're in the wrong for not eating it. You wouldn't enjoy being around that coworker much, would you?

The best way to get your message across is to live in a way that you feel comfortable with...When you have the chance, share this with your friends, but don't try to convert them.

If they answer you back that they can't afford organic meat, you really have no choice but to take them at their word. Whether it's true or not, all you can do is acknowledge what they've said, and believe that they have heard what you have to say. The less you try to force your ways on people, the more likely they'll be to accept you, as well as your message.

Where do you get your facts from? How can a cow be overworked? A cow just grazes all day. they eat, they discharge waste, either liquid or fecal matter. how much work is there in that. A chicken lays an egg, or many eggs how is my eating eggs cruel to the chicken? I usually don't peruse most vegan questions? I am asking because I don't know the answer you have been lead to believe. I do have some friends who don't eat red meat for personal health reasons. continuing... You have made a choice, you chose to become either a Vegan or Vegetarian. I respect a Vegan who does not clamor about their personal choices at a Dinner party. I do not respect one who makes comments at said party about those of us who do choose to partake of meat. In the same light I respect an Alcoholic who does not partake and makes no mention of the why. I do not respect one who is constantly chiding the rest of the guests because they are drinking alcohol. believe it or not a whisper gets attention, just not the same reaction as someone yelling.

We are designed to eat meat, drink milk etc.

Intensively reared animals don't have a great life and stress actually effects the flavour of the animals. Free range or organic meat is best.

I think alot of your fact listed above are wrong though. If you preach to people they will turn off and mark you as a nutter. Believe what you want and have a good case if people ask why you don't eat meat.

I have worked in restaurants for the last 12 years. I don't like vegetarians and vegans ONLY when they expect the world to revolve around them. I have enough on my hands helping customers who have allergies or medical issues to design meals that are safe and wholesome. I have no sympathy for someone who is self limiting due to moral issues and requests the same special treatment. I have multiple vegetarian and vegan items on my menu. If someone doesn't like my options for them, don't request something special that will take me away from the rest of my guests.

As for the moral dilemma of modern farming techniques I use local and sustainable products. I use free range or organic meats. I use troll caught fish. At the same time, I use veal and foie gras. The providers I use have the same standards as the organic and free range systems. Is that wrong?

I always wonder what would happen if we applied the energy spent towards saving my happy organic cattle from death towards schools for our children or decent salaries for teachers?

LOL. And to answer your question about why people don't like vegetarians and vegans, please read your own comments. Later.
