it depends on the size and the quality. There are the kind that are stretched on wood. Expensive. Then there are the kind that are sort of glued to cardboard. Those do real well for acrylics. They are probably the cheapest. I don't know if you have Wal-Mart up there but their craft department has a few of the cheaper ones. Probably any craft or hobby store should have them. Michael's here has all kinds.

I think it depends on your family and the lifestyle you live. If you feel there will be any financial stress in the near future, then no, stock up on diapers and bottles, and clothes, but if you're stable, and want to spend money on art - go ahead. If this is for a nursery, why not.. you'll be spending time in there, and you'll be able to enjoy it.. and for years it'll remind you of your baby. If it's going to be in an older childs room, just make sure it's high enough that kids can't reach, but I really don't find it an issue if you'd enjoy it in a child/baby room. & the cost of the painting totally depends on your financial status. If you see something, and love it.. and you can AFFORD it.. Go for it!

art stores, hobby stores, walmart, internet searches, all have canvas framed and thin canvas without frames. You can also order rolls of canvas that you can stretch yourself. Targets, kmart, i am not sure, however I have gotten a few from walmart. mostly i get mine from the Arizona Art supply store. A college art store might be a good place.

If you have a Michael's or a Hobby Lobby, they can help you. If not, it's not that tough to stretch and prime your own. You can check on line for instructions.
