I went to this dental office new. They evaluated my teeth, recommended a deep gum cleaning and the co-pay was estimated as $800. I never had deep gum cleaning. Plus the co-pay sounded too high. I told them that I needed time to think. At the meanwhile, I wanted a general cleaning done. I went to a general cleaning today, and that was the lousiest job I’ve even seen. The cleaning was done quickly and my teeth were still not clean. I called the office and the dentist said I needed a deep gum cleaning and a general cleaning had been done on me. The office eventually agreed to clean my teeth again tomorrow (assigned me a different dentist). I will go for the cleaning tomorrow, but probably will look for a new dental office for the future. What is your bet on their attitude toward me from this on? Will they try to do a better job knowing that I would complain otherwise, or they revenge for my complaint and my refusal to their recommendations?

Dentist make a living off of peoples mouths. They are there to help you keep a wonderful smile. They don't want to hurt you and repeat business is part of their practice. $ 800 for a co pay sounds high, but that has to do with your insurance. I'm going in for a deep cleaning next month, mainly because I've ignored my teeth for many years. Good luck with your choppers, and I hope your next cleaning is to your likings.

If you were in need of a deep cleaning $800 is a good price, though if you find a local school that has a Dental Hygiene program you can go there for way cheap!
I was taught in school that if I diagnosed a person as needing a deep clening we would not do a "general" cleaning of the teeth before hand. It can cause some gum tissue to heal and tighten which can trap the bad stuff in and make it harder to clean out of the deep pockets later.

A DEEP CLEANING, CALLED SCALING, IS DONE WHEN THERE IS A SIGN OF GUM DISEASE AND THE PROCEDURE IS DONE TO SAVE YOUR TEETH FROM BEING LOST IN THE FUTURE.
$800 FOR THIS PROCEDURE IS A REASONABLE PRICE. THIS IS NOT FOR A PROPHYLAXIS R A CLEANING ABOVE THE GUM LINE.
DENTISTS KNOW THAT SOME PATIENTS DON'T REALIZE ALL THAT'S INVOLVED. THEY WILL NOT HAVE A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE TOWARD YOU.

They will do a better job whether you complain or not.

If the dentist is a true professionals, then he would not care if you complained.

If a dentist gets revenge, its obviously a sign that he is immature and not a professional. And shows that he does not know what to do in such situations.

Good job on getting a new dentist and good luck!
