My father's family is very messed up i think they deal with problems by laughing it off "We don't cry we say Ha Ha" I find it very ineffective. They have a long history of alcoholism. My way of dealing with problems is very democratic and I talk things out and try to help each other with problems. You know the way therapists reccommend. I don't drink or smoke or had any drug problems. they have and do. i have a depression problem though. but that's why i have a therapist. so is what i'm doing right. I try theraputic method sto curb anger & depression.

It sounds like you are trying to take care of yourself. Talk to your therapist about this. Do you need medication? It has helped me a lot.

I've been dealing with screwed up families on both ends for over 20+ years. At some point in your life, especially after you have children you need to put your own life and priorities into perspective. I've bent over backwards trying to please both sets of our family. Bought gifts with none in return for 20+ years. No b-day gifts for my kids, no phone calls, they come and visit maybe every 5 years, if they're not tooo darned busy in their own screwed up life.
Bottom line is, some people just thrive on being messed up and having chaotic lives.
It's hard for you to deal with because you want the best out of your life. Try to involve yourself in a church or other organization where you're helping others. Those people have become our family and are there to help you out. It doesn't lessen the pain, but makes life easier to cope with and hopefully your family and your children will benefit from it. Keep limited contact with the crazies, your life will be much easier. Do what you think is right but put limits and priorities on yourself. I think this year I am only buying the inlaws presents. Skip the rest of them that cant give me the time of day for the past 20+years. Why am I buying for them and their kids if no one cares about me or my family.????
Been there done that , ten times over!
Good luck and God bless .

I'm not sure what the question is, but it sounds like you're doing things the right way. If you have problems with depression, by all means do not drink alcohol.
