Go for the English!!! They are cuter, have less health problems, and better temperment!!!!
They are NOT the same!!!! They are two different breeds!!!!!! Anyone knows that!! The "nose" is NOT the only difference.

American Cocker Spaniel and English Cocker Spaniels are two very different breeeds
American Cocker Spaniels have round eyes, a rounded skull, a more pronounced stop, and a shorter muzzle than English Cocker Spaniels. They come in many of the same colors as English Cockers, but are rarely seen in the roan colors. The classic "buff" color that is so popular among American cockers is not seen in the English Cocker, although there are "red" English Cockers that have a darker red color. English Cockers are a bit taller and heavier than the American breed and tend to have less coat. The head of the English Cocker is more setter-like than the American Cocker. Just because a dog has a longer muzzle or is bigger than the usual AC doesn't make it automatically an EC.
English Cocker Spaniels may be many coat colors. They may be parti-colored, with patches of black, liver, red, orange, or gold against a white or roan background. ("Roan" is when the white background is lightly to heavily speckled or mixed with hairs of a color listed above. Roan colors are common in English Cockers, while relatively rare in other spaniels.) English Cockers may be solid colors of black, red, liver, and golden; or any of the above colors accompanied by tan points on the eyebrows, muzzle, throat, rump, and feet. English Cocker Spaniels have a medium coat length. The average size is from 15 to 17 inches at the shoulder, and 25 to 35 lbs.
Heres some info on both breeds http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/reviews/americancockerspaniels.html

I personally prefer the American Cocker Spaniel
Make sure to get either breed form a reputable breeder or a rescue.

The English Cocker originated in England (where they breed for function before form.)The American Cocker is from(you guessed it) the U.S. (where we tend to breed for form before function). Needless to say, the English Cockers have a much less abundant coat-type, they are larger than the American cocker, and, from personal experiance, they have a much better and much more stable temperment.

Last year I made a report on American Cocker Spaniels! It was so exciting. The resoucres I used(books, interent, ect.) we great. The American Cocker Spaniel is adorable and very fast training. It's loving and it great when you live by or near a lake/pond because they'll scare off snakes or any other weird animals. They are very well behaved dogs.
And they are also loving, and trust me, they'll cut deep into your heart; you'll love the American Cocker Spaniel. They are very beautiful too! They come with a blonde/ginger color coat(EXTRA SOFT) and are SOO loving.
Hope this helps.
Here is(are) some pictures of the American:

I love the American cocker because i own one. she is very smart and a sweet heart. It all comes down to what a person prefers. The English is a bit bigger than the American but just as sweet and smart. I think the americans have a more beautiful head but i like them both.

in case you Google the two, you will see the actual transformations, and there are some. Temperamentally i'm unsure yet i wouldn't think of there's a lot distinction. the two are lively little canine. the yank will want greater coat-care in spite of the undeniable fact that for the period of spite of the reality that the Cocker Spaniel additionally desires popular clipping and grooming. in the united kingdom, we in basic terms call a Cocker Speniel a Cocker Spaniel, no longer an English one. We call the yank Cocker that for the period of spite of the undeniable fact that.

English Cockers are the original breed. Americans are the American version. They are not the same. Eng has less health problems and a milder temperment.

I think the American cocker has been overbred, so if you get one, find a reputable breeder that does all the health tests and breeds for temperment.
