My grandfather Andrew Imbiorski died in 1910 in Chicago, after falling from a roof. He was close to 70..my mother was the youngest of his second family with grandmother Rose Hernes.
I don't know what year he immigrated, but it was with his first wife Catherine and 4 children ( 3 boys and daughter?)
I am hoping that something on Ancestry will show his origin, or possibly one of the sons that was born in Poland. All of them were in the Chicago area.
Any lookup is deeply appreciated.

thanks! the first one is one that I posted a while back. I am hoping that more documentation is open now to help fill in.

EACH reply is a blessing. Per Genevieve' mom, the Poland marriages found the marriage of Rose's parent in Klecko in 1862 (thank you!) Andrew/ Catherine had 4 known sons, born Poland, any indication of naturalization may lead to papers with town of their birth?? plan to extend question as long as possible.

I found this:

"Andrew Imbiorski immigrated about 1881, probably with his first wife and
children. It is thought he may have been from Posnan.. but nothing
definite.
Folowing the death of his first wife, he married Rosalia Hernes, a
daughter of Ignac Hernes and Magdalena Majorowicz. Rose and her sister
Marianna (who married Andrew Wisniewski, possibly near Gniezno?) came to
America, but left a brother, Jan Hernes."

I also found:

"Andrew b. Nov. 29, 1838 Poland/Germany d. June 28, 1910;
m. Katherine, Children: Joseph, John, Michael, Walenty, Petronela
m. Rose Hernes, Children: Steven, Louis, Julia, Mary; also Stanley Hernes, Michael Baranak."

I also found out from the second source that "Andrzej" is an alternate spelling of the first name.

There's not much information in any of the Polish databases. But of course, we're at least 5 years from getting that information all transcribed online. I was able to find just 3 references to the surname. One was from the Wólka mountains and the other two were from Galicia. I wish there was more to work with, but they came in that age of the information void. My one suggestion is that you check out "Germans to America" and see if you can find them in any of the passenger lists out of Hamburg and Bremen that aren't completely transcribed on Ancestry and Castle Garden yet.

BTW, my family was from the Gniezno region. If your family is from that region, the Poznan Marriage Database is the one to watch. It's long from finished, but about once a month I'm pleasantly surprised to find good little gems on there. I'd suggest bookmarking it and looking every now and then.
