The best part about online gaming, actually playing with other people, is free on the PS3. If you want to buy additional content, of course you have to pay for it.

Also you don't need to pay for a subscription just to navigate the Xbox Live market place, whoever said that has no idea what they are talking about. Xbox live silver accounts (can do everything a gold account can do) are free, and only do not allow you to play online with other people.

It is free. Thats like saying its free to walk into a store, but you still gotta pay if you wanna buy stuff! The downloadable things that you have to pay for are games, and you have to pay for games no matter where you buy them, you are sooo wrong here, online and the things offered at the online STORE are two different things, the items offered at the store are obvs gonna cost money.

Because it is free to get online.Just not free to get some of the games and movies and stuff. Also the web browsing is free and some of the games are however thats up to the game developers if they wish to charge.Xbox live you have to pay before you can even look through and even download the demos and trailers.

You have to pay for games on Xbox Live and the Virtual console as well and if you want to get games it's your own choice. They can't just make games to give them away for free, even downloadable games have developers. That's like complaining because you have to buy PS3 games.

wow, obviously the people who answered your questions do not own ps3s. the ability to use the servers to play network/online games that you already own is free, where xbox live requires a monthly subscription.

the paid games that you see are games where you can buy online through the playstation network, similar to the nintendo shop channel. they are games like old playstation 1 games or homebrew developmental games like flOw.

however, there may be the case in the future with mmorpg games requring a separate subscriptions. these charges do not reflect the total rules/regulations of the playstation network and will only apply to the games that you own.

It is free compared to the Xbox Live service. You actually have to pay first to even be able to navigate the Xbox Live Marketplace. With the Playstation 3, it is available out of the box. I think that it's better marketing to have it available for free so that people can observe what is available to buy.
