They are not very sore, she only started scratching one yesterday and the other today.
They are not inflamed yet and have a very small amount of brown debris inside. I have treated and cleaned them with E V olive oil. This has eased them but I am wondering if she is starting with ear mites? I have some Selamectin, which is licensed to treat dogs for earmites, and fleas and worms.
She was wormed with Drontal two weeks ago.
Advice from those "in the know" would be appreciated.
Thanks

No Ticks and No Fleas. I am 99% sure this is the start of earmites and her ears haven't even gotten sore yet, and the debris, well you have to look hard to see it.
She was at the vets last Friday, for injections and micro-chipping and he checked her ears, so it has just started.
I'll try the vinegar too, thanks for the suggestion. :-D

Ear mites typically produce a dry, coffee ground looking debris. The ears are very itchy. She may be developing a yeast infection, often caused by water left in the ears after bathing or swimming, or from inflammation from allergies. Yeast infections are often very itchy as well. It won't hurt to treat with the selamectin, but your vet can take a swab and do a cytology under the microscope to determine the cause and dispense appropriate meds.

Ear mites it is. The "brown debris" is the obvious sign. You can pick some treatment up fairly inexpensive at PetCo or PetSmart. My boxer has the same problem. If that doesn't fix it, the stuff the vet gives you is more potent. I had to use what the vet provided and have kept it under control since with store bought.

Sounds like a yeast infection. Do the ears smell? Both of my dogs have had them, brown debris and a smelly ear is usually what you can look for. They can get yeast infections quite easily if they get any water in thier ears and they aren't dried good enough. Nothing ear drops from the vet won't take care of. The vet can also clean them out really good, they have special solutions for that. Good Luck.

yes, ear mites can mostly cause severely itchy ears for your puppy. it would be a good idea to take her to the veterinarian so they can prescribe you special drops. ear mites can most likely occur at any age of the puppy. another thing that can make your puppy's ears itchy is because maybe she's around other types of animals. some people say flea control products could help. i havent tried this yet on my dog because he hasnt had mites of any kind yet but ill admit, it sounds like a good idea. ear mites are very common but it's still very serious that you take her to the vet for a check up.

Hi! I have two German shepherds with big ears and they have both been diagnosed with ear mites. With one dog, she suffered a painful hematoma in her ear from shaking her head due to the ear mites. We were out of town and she was being boarded. By the time we had got back, her ear flap was filled with blood and required further painful surgery to relieve the pressure and repair the ear. Keep your puppy's ears clean and get some ear mite medicine. The main trick to getting rid of them for good is to administer the medication as directed. It needs to be applied 2-3 times a day, but you can't skip doing it or you will never get rid of the mites! Best wishes to you and your pup!

oh its only a ear infection-caused by allergies or just the change of seasons or even for no reason. my dogs get them all the time. your vet will give you drops that you put in the dogs ears usually twice a day...they will still shake their head and obviously not like the feeling of having a watery substance in their ears but it clears up fast. i dont know if you can get over the counter stuff or if it will work as fast as what the vet gives you-but i get the drops from the vet and they arent expensive.......and if you take a q-tip and clean their ears you will find brown debris. thats normal. and the itching will continue until it clears. nothing to worry about.

Hey, congrats on your badge. Don't know if this helps or not, but my puppy was just diagnosed with a yeast infection in his years. Vet told me to mix white vinegar and water 50/50 and put a little in and rub his ears like you would treating mites. Maybe it will help your dog out too. His ears were a little cruddy, not bad, but they were red inside and he was scratching and shaking his head......

ADD* this is once a day for my puppy, I fogot to mention

Take it to the vet. The puppy has an ear infection and the ear canal might get swollen. They should give him medication that you'll have to apply daily for 7-10 days .This just happen to my puppy. I noticed it kept itching his ears and when I took him to the vet that's exactly what the vet told me.

sounds like ear mites. use that stuff you have for ear mites. you could also keep using the olive oil to get rid of ear mites. probably 3 times a day. if that doesnt work ask the vet.
