We started these tournaments for VOLLEYBALL on Tuesday and well im the ONLY ONE out of my team [1 out of 9] who can't hit the ball. My team is mad at me for not hitting the ball and yeah they are right to be mad because i HAVE NOT hit the ball since we began the tournament. The reason is not because im lazy or scared of the ball.

It's because i SUCK at hitting the ball.
Every time im ready to hit the ball i miss the ball by a FOOT
Im only good at serving the ball

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME?

1. What is the propper way to hit the ball?
2. What should i do so that i don't miss the ball when i try to hit it?

when you set the ball try to get right underneath literally. And have your arms bent when you hit it because it gives you more pushing strength. Also when setting a ball be sure to use the pads of your fingers when you hit the ball. (if you aren't sure what the pads of your fingers are try typing. The part of your finger that hits the keys on the keyboard are the pads of your fingers!!) when you are bumping the ball only bump when the ball is lower than your chest. And while you are bumping you should let the ball hit the inner side of your arms above the wrist!!!

Also if you don't already have a volleyball get one to use at home. The ones at wal-mart are cheap but not bad I use them sometimes. But the ones at any sports shop such as sport check they will have better quality balls but they will be more expensive.

If you already do have a v-ball and I was just blabbering off about where to get them and such then my advise is to practice as much as you can on your own time!!!

:) remember practice makes perfect!!!

Use these keys:

1. 3 step approach foot work- Right, left, (quick step) right left, (on the quick step land parallel to the net) jump
2. Arms- Begin with them straight out infront of you on your first step arms stay there, second step arms begin to go back, third step build momentum and arms go completely behind then straight up in the air
3. Follow through- hit the ball and follow your arm all the way through towards the court (not towards the nearest "out" line)
4. Big, open hand- stretch your hand out and open it wide (no cupped hand or fist this can result in problems hitting)
5. Avoid the net- to not hit the net with any part of your body at all. also avoid hitting the ball on the nett this could result in the ball not going over)
i hope these directions are clear they may kind of be hard to understand but once you get used to it it will be so much easier!

If your playing indoor VB with the proper ball and you are referring to returning the serve or bumping (for setting the ball to the spiker). Do your on drills against a wall or in a circle with the team (bump & pass). Check out local library for tips and rules for hitting the ball. I'm 71 years old & still playing, but we all make errors but that's what going to give you the experience. Don't forget to stretch & warm up first.

I assume you mean HITTING as in spiking.
For your approach, if you are right handed, it is LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, jump, then you extend your arm back, like you would grab your pony tail, but dont acually grab it. lol. then swing your arm nice and hard, and snap your wrist.
You also need to have good timingg, which takes practice, I used to have problems with my timing.
Just practice your footwork, and jumping, like I used to take my approach at home, and jump and try to hit a beam, then I went for a higher beam, then I went for the ceiling, and so on.
Just PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, and you will eventually get better.

and be confident, and GO FOR THE BALL !
:]

I hope this helps, and that everything works out with your team !

The proper way to hit it is either slap it or put your hands toghether like a fist and hit it. And to avoid missing the ball you should probally not be scared to get up to it and see where the ball is heading to get to it.
