My Dog is 50 days pregnant and she is a French Bulldog. She just got her milk in today 30th Nov 2007. She mated 12, 13, 14 and 15TH, Oct. I squeezed her teats and a little milk came out today. We are due to go on vaction today for 4 days. We don't no if it is safe to go. We have a good care give to take care of her, but we would rather be here when she goes into labor. Can anyone give us a round about date for birth of the puppies. Only people with experience please. How long after do they produce milk do they go into labor? please help...

You can't go by the milk, some produce milk earlier some later.. You can expect your puppies to be born 58-65 days after each of the dates you bred her. That is a huge wide range there. That's why we breed only once. Then you don't have puppies being conceived on different days, being born too early or too late.. AND you have a much better idea when to expect them. But what you need to do is go from your first date of October 12th, and count 58 days and she could have them anytime after that day, for the next week and a 1/2 or so.

You should have booked her c-section right when you bred her. Almost every Frenchie will need a c-section for the birth due to the large headsize. That way not only does your vet set aside time for the op in advance you also know the exact date your pups will be born right from the start.

I would take her to your vet right away for a checkup and set up the c-section. I would imagine he would advise against you going away. Stress late in pregnancy may lead to premature labor.

They can get milk up to a couple of weeks or so before the birth so that's not what you go by. It's by the first day she was bred. Count 63 days from that time then give or take a few days that's when the pups should arrive. As I said though being a Frenchie there is little or no chance for a natural birth.

Good luck.

Some get the milk in the week of labor others the day of labor so this is not a for sure sign
from the first tie day 50 is tomorrow and most go on day 63-65 unless she went in labor early you should be back in time but the stress of you being gone and someone new caring for her could cause her to go in to labor to soon and the pups could not live if born this early just have your vet on stand-by and tell the care giver to take her in if anything does not seem right

Gestation period in dogs is 60-62 days from the date of successful breeding. I recommend an xray to determine how many puppies there are. Her teats can start producing milk for some time before actually going into labor (weeks). Talk to your vet for more information.

You are looking at 60 to 63 days, she is not going into labor anytime soon, if it were Oct. when breed., truthfully anytime now some can go early if it a big litter.

Noted: Aso thinking aboutit, if she were in oct that is only 45 days from the 15th, had to go get my dog welping chart, 12th does put it roughly at 50, how taking the litter into consider, plus as stated maybe planned C section you are looking between a safety margin of between 10 to 14th unless vet thinks C Section is in need.

Since this breed is known for having complications more often than other breeds, I would suggest letting her stay at vet while you are on vacation. If things go right, she shouldn't be ready to give birth for a couple of weeks, but things don't always go by the book. A vets office would be a safe place for her, in case something goes wrong while you are away.

Every reputable breeder of Frenchies I know, and I used to work with one, will have her c-sectioned due to the high probability of the mother dying in whelp. See a vet with experience in Frenchies NOW. Contact the French bulldog club for a referral to a good vet and hopefully a good mentor who can teach you aobut proper breeding practices.

Each dog breed is different.

My Shih-Tzu was pregnant for 62 days and lost a "mucous plug" before she started having contractions.

I did alot of research through google.

Know that all of the puppies may not survive. We lost 1 at 2 days old.

Good luck, you're going to have your hands full!

:o)

Dogs are pregnant for 63 days. Once you hit 65 you should start to worry. You will be fine to go on vacation just have someone check in on her to make sure she's ok as there may be complications even this far away from the whelp.

i believe its about a week you might be better off asking the vet as it differs from one dog to another
