The atheists you are talking about probably live in a culture where Christianity is the majority religion and they don't know any Muslims or Buddhists.

The attacks on Christianity are often focusing on very literal things that only fundamentalists would debate. I know well-educated Christians who don't believe the story of Noah and the Ark ever happened, for example.

But, Islam gets attacked constantly here, not necessarily by atheists, though.

It would be really silly for atheists to attack Buddhism; nobody could get Buddha to answer whether or not he believed there was a God. That would be like trying to nail Jello to a tree.

Buddhist usually do not shove their beliefs down other's throats.

There's nothing bad I can say about Islam that they already have not said themselves... I mean if actions speak louder than words, nothing I can say can put any more of a negative impact on Islam than the actions of extremist Muslims.

Since most of us are in the US/Canada and Christianity seems to be the dominant religion of our part of Northern America, that's where most of the conversations will take place.

For the record, I prefer Christianity to Islam... Christians some how managed to evolve out of the dark ages. Islam still stuck in the 5th century.

Christianity is one of the largest religions in the world, right next to Catholicism. Plus, the Christians like to argue to, thus instigating an argument with the atheists

Atheists do say a lot against Islam equally with Christianity. As for Buddhism, have you ever studied it? It's very difficult to say anything negative against Buddhism. They don't start wars, they don't condone violence of any sort, and they don't believe in conversion or evangelism. What could you say against them---they've got funny hairdos?

Do you cherry-pick the bible the way you cherry-pick Yahoo Answers? Islam has been slammed on here for the last 3 days. You didn't see all the Teddy Bear and Muhammad Pedophile questions?

And as for Buddhism. If you study it, you'll see why it's not criticized as much. There's not a whole hell of a lot wrong with it.

who attacked first?...Christianity attacked the educated and brought about the "dark ages"...they attacked the "witches"..who were only wise people helping their community in cases of illness, pregnancy, etc...they attacked the middle east in the so called "crusade"....they frightened the innocent Africans into adopting Christianity(missionaries)....need i go on?......Islam is only doing now what the Christians have done in past..killed anyone not believing in Christ....and Buddhism?...i respect their philosophy so much that i really cannot fault them.........

That's because Christianity is the only religion that seems to have a problem with us. Hindus don't care, Buddhists don't care, Muslims don't go around trying to convert you either, so in my part of the world, that mostly leaves the Christians. We don't care what you believe as long as you don't try to force it down our throats. It's a gag reflex, similar to the one you'd have if we suddenly crashed your church service and announced that God didn't exist. I'm aware that some atheists do the near equivalent, but those are the minority. Most of us retaliate because we're being attacked. Just as you have a right to defend your opinions, so do we. If you have the right to preach in church, we have the right to not attend Sunday Mass. That's that. If we told you there was no Hell, you'd argue about it because it contradicted your belief system. You contradict ours and expect us not to say anything about it? Talk about double standards. Before you complain about being oppressed, look down and see those you are oppressing.

To Edward J.: About abortion - it always seems to me that you moral crusaders are just going on about it for your own self-gratification. You campaign so hard, but you never bother to find out what happens to the lives that you have supposedly "saved". Did the child live his life in a slum? Did he die of hunger? Did he go to school? You don't care about any of that, do you? You just want to go up there, say abortion is wrong, save the baby, and who has to deal with the consequences? Not you - which is why you're so self-righteous about it in the first place. If you care so much, adopt those children yourself. Do something for them. Don't force them to live out their lives in an endless cycle of desperation simply because a couple thousand people had some theological belief.

I'm not Atheist. Christians have attacked and destroyed all other religions for hundreds or thousands of years. People who are attacking are just defending themselves. The Bible that Christians use sentences me to death for my beliefs, if my religion had a book that sentenced you to death due to your beliefs would you not defend yourself?

1. I have seen other 'religions' on here slammed also but useers recently.
2. Greater reward; greater attacks.
3. We 'Christians' do have some things that currently need to be cleaned out of 'Christianity' to God's glory!!! (Sources of division).

Are you kidding me??? Islam gets attacked by EVERYONE, not just atheists. Plenny a Christian ridicules it. Islam is the butt of jokes both here in R&S and in the real world, not to mention in the media and all over the rest of the Internet.

As for Buddhism, they don't cause problems, so they're cool.
