This is in Michigan. I was pulled over and the officer said that I was driving on a suspended license. My car was impounded license confiscated yadda yadda yadda. I called the secretary of state to see what my license was suspended for they said that it was for failure to pay a driver responsibility fee by may 16th 2007. I mailed out my payment to them on May 11, 2007. They processed it on may 18th but did not notify me that my license was suspended. I spoke with a reference person from the seceretary of state who stated that since I paid my fees that my license was no longer suspended and I would need to pay a 125 dollar reinstatement fee. I payed the fee and got my license back and my car out of impound. I want to find out the validity of what the seceretary of state's representative said to me because if what she said is true then I was not driving on a suspended license and therefore should not have to pay fines or whatnot. Any help with this matter would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hiring a lawyer for minor legal problems can be expensive, but there are websites like LawGuru, FindLaw and other places where you can get free legal advice. I found this website useful - http://www.uelp.org/freelegal.html

The State Attorney feels like he is attempting to bully you. He is solely utilizing scare strategies to intimidate you. You have a correct to a tribulation, whether or not he likes it or now not. I'm now not definite I thoroughly comprehend the specifics of your case. You would possibly desire to rent a legal professional to support you out. Was your license suspeneded on the time of the price tag or now not? If it wasn't and it used to be only a clerical mistakes, then it must be disregarded.

So, you mailed the payment on Friday, May 11th. It was due on Wednesday, May 16th. I can see the problem already. You did not allow enough time for the payment to reach them. Your notice would indicate that your license would be suspended if payment was not received on time. You already had notice. It is your responsibility to ensure the payment is received.

sorry, despite what you were told, until you paid your reinstatement fee-- your license was NOT valid. been through this several times, so know what im talking about. once your reinsatement was paid, that was when your license became valid again. if you explain the circumstances to the judge, he may just drop all charges, as long as you can show that your license was reinstated.

tell it to the Judge, with as much paperwork backing it up as you can muster.

your argument is that you shouldn't be held liable for slow paperwork processing by government employees.
