Anyone who has read the bible from cover to cover several times (not just the Greek scriptures) will likely realise that although God has a loving and merciful side, He also has His justice and holy side. God will not indefinately put up with willful wrongdoing.
There's the mentality that "God is love" and "Jesus died for us", so we don't have to worry about "rules" in the bible...as long as we just say we have faith in Jesus we'll be saved forever.
But here's what the bible says:
Jude 1:4
Some godless people have sneaked in among us and are saying, "God treats us much better than we deserve, and so it is all right to be immoral." They even deny that we must obey Jesus Christ...

1 John 2:3-6
When we obey God, we are sure that we know him. But if we claim to know him and don't obey him, we are lying and the truth isn't in our hearts. We truly love God only when we obey him as we should, and then we know that we belong to him. If we say we are his, we must follow the example of Christ.
James 1:22-25
Obey God's message! Don't fool yourselves by just listening to it. If you hear the message and don't obey it, you are like people who stare at themselves in a mirror and forget what they look like as soon as they leave. But you must never stop looking at the perfect law that sets you free. God will bless you in everything you do, if you listen and obey, and don't just hear and forget.
James 2:10
If you obey every law except one, you are still guilty of breaking them all.
2 Timothy 3:5
Even though they will make a show of being religious, their religion won't be real...

Christians should should be loving and not judgemental, so if everyone were STRICTLY Christian you wouldn't have to worry about war, heritics being put on the rack or the Catholic Spanish Inquisition etc..they are completely wrong for real Christians.

To me the Human Consciousness is evolving and is getting reflected in the treatment to wards the organized religions including Christianity. The day is not far when all the organized religions of the world will vanish and only one faith will prevail to guide the whole mankind. This is little more than a pious hope or wishful thinking.

Yes, and the reason is because religious leaders have used the word of the bible to commit horrible atrocites, which in turn has extremely lowered the credibility of the bible. It is unfortunate. In the past most people had a common belief system. It is all good though, because the bible predicted all of this. 100 years ago, you would have never heard the majority agree abortion is a good thing and a womans right to choose. We have become a bunch of self centered people without compassion, conscience or mercy that denies God. It was fortold, so at least we know some of the bible is true. ;-)

I think a lot are becoming too laid back. If you really think about it, nowadays, some people aren't even choosing a religion. That can be one of the most important subjects, but yet the interest in religions are decreasing. A lot of adults, students and younger (hs etc) don't have a religion or don't "really care". The world is changing for the good and bad. It's not being enforced, is really what I'm trying to say, so therefore it is laid back. Get it? I know it's confusing :P

Your shown fact that the Bible has been edited is patently fake. your shown fact that the church has been corrupt is, regrettably, actual. There are extra suitable than 24,000 finished and partial historical manuscripts of the hot testomony nicely-known to exist at present. some have been dated to interior of 30 years of Christ's death and resurrection. There are some 32,000 letters of early church fathers that quote the hot testomony. There are sixty 4,000 surviving lectionaries that incorporate costs. unfold over centuries and geographies, those copies hardly ever deviate from one yet another. Their impressive consistency demonstrates needless to say that the Bible turn into not edited by ability of the Romans or the church. significant cutting-edge translations such because of the fact the hot worldwide version, the hot American oftentimes happening Bible, and the hot living Translation are consistent with unique-language mauscripts from till now the enhancing might have taken place. The corruption of the church has been an ongoing subject. Any time faith and political ability mixture, the end result heavily isn't solid. the subject is that folk place self assurance of their very own information rather than following the phrases of God himself as printed in the Bible. The Bible isn't approximately faith. this is approximately dating. Jesus Christ ushered in a manner of staring on the worldwide by God's eyes. this is one in each of those component that makes the under the impression of alcohol positioned down his bottle, the druggie supply up his needle, and the abuser positioned down his fists. Christianity whilst completed nicely alterations human beings and the worldwide for the extra advantageous. enable's not throw out the newborn with the tub water. actual Christianity characterised by ability of Christ followers is an particularly solid component.

Well in my opinion it is getting more down to the way it was meant to be. God doesn't want self-righteous people and religion tries to make people walk the straight and narrow which isn't what we need to do. We should try to do better but always keep in mind the Ten Commandments were meant to show us how incapable we are of walking perfectly with God and are in desperate need of a Savior, which is our LORD GOD JESUS CHRIST. But I do agree we need to be doers of the Word and not just hearers only.

Well, times have changed since the Bible was written...
and I saw this saying from another Yahoo!Answer question.
It said, "Follw EXACTLY what the Old testement says, and the man would go to jail. Follw EXACTLY what the New teststement says, and the man would go to an asylum."
So even though Christianity has become laid back, it's hard to follow the Bible word by word to begin with since we're all human.

What do you mean by "obey God's message"? Follow all the rules, don't screw up, obey what your pastors and leaders say? Fight abortion? Fight poverty? Don't exploit those weaker than you? Don't have sex with someone not your spouse--or even want to?
Dig this: from Romans 13 (NIV):
8Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. 9The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet,"
and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." 10Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
It's all about love, baby--and not just the warm fuzzies, but acts of love, as demonstrated in the parable of the sheep and the goats (see Matthew 25). It's about helping your neighbor and doing him/her no harm, as it's within your power. And yes, it's about a loving, saving relationship with Jesus Christ, because we can't do it all perfectly. The Pharisees were all caught up in obeying God perfectly--and they plotted to kill Jesus.
Remember: Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. (And yes, that means love yourself, too!)

Umm.. if people followed the Bible verbatim we would all be stoning people to death and women would be our slaves.. It is ridiculous to me that Christians think they have the right to apply their beliefs to everyone. It isn't enough that they lead their own lives according to what the Bible tells them to do, but they try to make everyone else live their lives that way too.. And if they don't.. they go to hell! What gives? What's the point? If the only alternative to not believing in the Bible is going to hell.. of course people are going to want to worship god. He doesn't really give them a choice does he? I am totally ranting... Religion is the biggest hoax of all time!

If your a Christian then I would say no. How many religions REALLY know their bible well enough to find scripture quickly. I hate writing because this could be read sarcastically and it should not be read that way. I am not a Christian.
