According to the Old Testament, Methuselah died the year of the flood. The general assumption is that he drowned in the flood waters. I've been thinking, though (and I know that it's a little scary up there when I get a thought), that maybe he died before the flood ... like ANYtime that year before the flood came. The Bible is not so clear on that.

Any other thoughts on this subject?

He enjoyed a life span of 969 years, the longest of Bible record, and one that has become proverbial for longevity. He died in 2370 B.C.E., the year in which the Flood began. But the Scriptures say that Methuselah “died,” not that he perished in the Deluge as a result of divine execution.—Ge 5:27

If you do the math, you will find that Methuselah is supposed to have died the same year as the flood. It also says he was 900 years old. Did he drown? Doesn't say. Maybe god held off the flood to wait for him to expire.

Personally, I would hold the details of anything before Abraham a bit suspect.

My understanding is that he died shortly before the flood. The chronology would indicate that to be the case.

So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years; and he died. Genesis 5:27

Yes, tragically, he died. Shame too, he was so young.
