firstly get it checked out by a doctor, burns can infect. The doc tells me medical treatment is silver sulpher diazine. That will prevent infection. Treat it straight away, neglect is the worse thing for burns. If the skin is broken use a bandage and cover it for the first few days at least, but make sure its checked if it looks like there is infection and you can identify that by yellowish matter.
The very best thing I have found is aloe vera, its a cactus you can grow, just cut a piece off and open the leaf and smear the gel over the entire burn, repeat this when it becomes painful or itchy.

NOT butter or oil - they are loaded with impurities that can cause infection!!
Water with a few tablespoons of RAW apple cider vinegar in it (at the health food store) will take away the pain - skin is naturally acidic, so you are HELPING restore the acid mantle by using the raw vinegar
Vitamin E is good to prevent scarring and is CLEAN since it is in capsules (pierce the capsule and squeeze onto burn).

Squeeze Vitamin E, 800 units per tab on to the burn, and keep doing it for a few days. The pain will go away and there will be no scar/

If your friend has been burned and the skin is damage, they should see a doctor to determine how sever the burn is. Burns can become infected very easily. Please take your friend to a doctor and let them determine the best treatment.

Direct contact with fire? or like hot oil when cooking?
mom's treatments are always applying butter or cooking oil itself onto the wound. it works...the sting does down.

NEVER use ice or anything cold. Anything with vitamin E and cocoa-butter are your wisest bets. Depending on how mild it is, you can try vaseline or toothpaste.

I have heard that honey will help.
Also, I heard that you can use the fluid from a Vitamin E pill.
