I was not able to prove any food I fed him was contaminated, but the lab tests are pretty conclusive in my opinion. The FDA hasn't been helpful since none of the foods I can think of that he ate matched perfectly with the specific product IDs of identified contaminated foods. Is there anywhere I can go for recourse for my $1,000 of vet bills?

Your vet needs to forward information to the FDA, they listen to vets more than to owners. However, go to the forum over at the Itchmo site, they can offer suggestions.

As others have said, I am sorry to hear of another pet lost to this horrible poison food issue. Most states consider pets to be personal property and the only reimbursement by law is the replacement value. If it is not a registered blood line feline that value will probably be about 50 dollars. The cost of action against the companies will far exceed that amount. I agree with the others in that class action suits are fruitless.
I would suggest letting go. To harbor anger and resentment against the companies only means they win again.

How heartbreaking. As other posters mention, there are and will be class action lawsuits. However, think of the cost to you in time and money which could even exceed your high vet bill.

Perhaps grieving the loss of your beautiful pet, then giving another great kitty a wonderful home is a happier path to take, a better use of your resources and your energy?

I'm so sorry you had to go through this pain.

Sorry about your cat, but even people who have been able to prove their pets ate contaminated food don't get reimbursed. You might be able to find a lawyer willing to let you in on a class action suit but really the only people who ever make money off those things are the lawyers, sorry

Like the others said, you *might* be able to get on a class action lawsuit. However, I don't think you really stand a chance.

I would get the food tested for any of the recalled products. If you can get that kind of proof. You can get compensation. So sorry for your loss.
