It's by my favorite LDS composer, Sally DeFord! This particular piece is one of my favorites - it's called 'Guard Him, Joseph'. One of the rare christmas songs which includes the Savior's stepfather. Anybody else like it?

It instantly caught my attention as I'm a musician at heart. Although written in the key of Eb, I look forward to playing it on the guitar and transposing it down to D major to get some clear tones and perhaps give me a better range for singing it.

Afternote: A most entrancing melody line accompanied with the colorful chords of Gm and Fm7 thrown in the mix of normal progression. Simple, yet elegant.

I saw it. It's beautiful. I love Sally DeFord. My choir is singing her arrangement of While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night for Christmas. I'm happy to see that one of her songs (If The Savior Stood Beside Me) is being used in the Primary program for 2008. It's a beautiful song.

Haven't received my December Ensign yet, or if I have, I have not seen it. Sometimes the mail gets put away before I see it. I will check it out when I get to chance to do so. I have seen the Sally deFord web site. Good stuff. We are using her music in our choir.

I love it! It's one of my favorites. I am choir directer and my choir did it last year.....and the one in the New Era is good too. It's From Father's Arms, to Mother's Arms, by Janice Kapp Perry. My choir did that one 2 years ago.
Sally Deford has a new arrangement of Guard Him Joseph on her website. If you listen to the MP3 of the two men singing, it will bring tears to your eyes!
Merry Christmas!

Haven;t got it yet; however, my Ensign often gets waylaid, as I live in the south.

Thanks for the recommendation, though. I am always trying to find good music to add to my collection, listen to at work. (I work a solitary nightshift) I live in a town that is so small, there is not even a Christian bookstore.

Yes, I read it yesterday. I liked it. I can't read music well enough to hum the tune without difficulty, but I'd like to hear it played one day. I may check out her sight and see if it's there.

You already have your December Ensign? We don't get ours until halfway through the month. Except the Conference editions which arrive at the end of the month.
But thanks for the heads up, I'll look out for it.

I didn't have a chance to play it on the piano, but I hummed the tune to myself, and really liked it!
