I have today paid a shocking price for a cart bag!! as a present for someone, I have also in the past, paid hundreds for one single golf club!
This is what the person in question really wanted, and i was glad to help out with their wishes.
what im asking is, is the high cost of golf gear really that important, and is it justified? nice answers only pls. I just dont get the whole thing about golf, especially in bad weather.

Sometimes the high prices can be justified, other times no. I try to spend as little as possible on accessories, since they really don't help me play any better. Unfortunately, golf is a sport that really lends itself to pricey equipment, as golfers love to try out the new, flashy gear.

I don t think half these people have been to a golf store lately. A complete set of 14 clubs no matter the brand will run close to $2000 minimum. If you get fitted and do not go for a name brand that will still be your cost. Second hand clubs are always an option but then you have no idea what they have been through or how they have been treated. My greatest criticism of golf is the cost of the game. A driver alone, off the rack, will cost between 3-5 hundred dollars. Fairway woods run almost 250, hybrids are around 125 and a set of irons will cost you anywhere from 4- 14 hundred dollars once again depending on brand. You then have to look at wedges which run 125 a and then putters which have a wide range of prices and should be selected on how you think it feels. Golf stores are your best option because goldpf courses seem to inflate their prices. A golf bag again can range in price drastically depending on if you buy big name brands instead of lesser known brands. Look, if you love the game as I do, the initial investment is high but is going to be the least of your worries. With course designers making courses longer and tougher, they also design them to be very expensive because the owners want a quick return on investment. Golf is a great game but everything about it is exactly why so many consider it an elitist sport because the costs from balls to bags to clubs and clothing as well as shies and the price of courses is constantly going up. If you live in am area where golf us a part of the community, the prices can be reasonable for local residents. If you travel and get sucked into high priced resorts and FAMOUS golf course designers, you are paying through the nose. Look for value and you van still enjoy the game but if you live in areas where golf courses are limited or you have to drive long distances, you will pay a fortune. Golf is not for the ordinary man so be warned in advance when making your first purchase. Good luck.

The high price for clubs can be justified. the high price for bags no not really. There is a diffrence in the clubs design that will help the ball go farther, spin more or what not. but the high price for golf bags i think is not important. except for looks.

Never! get yourself onto bid-up tv. or price drop channels 635 & 644 on sky They do some cracking bargains esp. on golf trollys. The whole point of you buying the golf gear was because you wanted it for a friend so it doesn't matter if you get it or not.

Too many golfers place brand name recognition above functionality. It's that "keeping up with Joneses" mentality and has nothing to do with the number you put on the scorecard.
