for many years since the end of the cold war less and less people joined the armed forces and the goverment didnt encourage people that much to join after all after around it didnt look like a major war owuld happen with all the worlds major powers being allies and at least civil to each other so it didnt look like a major war could happpen, but now that we have so many troops in the middle east we have completly run out of troops not a very nice thought if someone came invading so should the uk aim on creating a larger armed forces.

The smaller armed forces of the UK and Australia are actually a major advantage. It allows for a much more professional and well trained force. It's a classic example of quality over quantity. More isn't always better. Smaller forces if correctly run cost less to train and equip than a larger force, saving tax dollars, but at the same time giving you a more effective warrior. In short no, the smaller force would be much more effective than a larger force for a country the size of the UK.

I do not think there is much chance of anyone soon coming to invade the UK and it would not happen overnight, so anyone aiming to do that would still face stiff opposition. There are still troops in Germany, I do not think the whole BAOR has come back to UK yet and there is also the TA, Reserves and to get to the UK you have to get past the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force. However to answer your question it would be nice to see an increase in the Infantry maybe a second or 3rd battalion of several regiments who were reduced to one would be a good start.

Seeing as the Labour Party has been downsizing the British Forces since they got into power, this wont happen while the "reds" are in Government, it might offend Tsar Putin and the new Putinism Party.

There is no possibility of the U.K. being invaded while part of N.A.T.O.
