There are treatments that will lead to an individuals cure. There are some cancers that are easily treated and the person is essentially cured . . however there are over 200 different types of cancer. Some are higher grade and more difficult to treat than others. All cancers become life threatening if they metastasize . . which means they have grown larger and begun to shed microscopic cancer cells into the blood steam and/or lymphatic system. It is metastatic cancer with high grade tumors that are the most difficult to find treatment and cure for.
There are few warning signs for early cancer . . but the earlier you discover the cancer the more likely it can be stopped and essentially 'cured' using a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
Many types of cancer are age specific . . so one way to check for cancer is to know the most common age of certain type of cancer. Childhood cancers are not the same as adult onset cancers . . few adults get neuroblastoma and few children get colon cancer.
Anyway, the best way to handle cancer is to make sure you remain healthy, exercise, don't drink or smoke excessively, and become aware of your body. The most common way for a young person to find cancer is to detect any unusual lump or bump anywhere on the body. See a doctor if that bump or lump seems to be growing.

Tom is so right, there was a survey done at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance among it's workers and over 80% said if they had a choice of how they would die they would choose cancer because of one thing...it gives them time to say goodbye. A person I know has had stage 4 colon cancer for the last ten years. I saw her last night and she said that the tumor only has grown slightly and she will not need chemo treratments for at least six months. Nobody knows how much time they have left, and it is possible that treatments could keep her alive for decades. Good luck, Dave

Maybe I'm cynical, but I think there is no cure because it makes too much money. Just think of all the doctors, surgeons, drug company reps who would be out of a job if if a cure for cancer was found. I find it hard to believe that they can't cure it. I know there are many different types of cancer, but geez, they seem closer to curing AIDS than cancer. But, early detection is still the best way to beat it.

there are a great many different kinds of cancer, no one cure can be found for all of them. Early detection is the best way to beat any cancer, and there are different tests for different cancers. The place to start with is your family history, is there any cancer in your family, what kind, and was it fatal. From there you discuss testing with your doctor if you have a familial history of cancer.

This one is easy about why there is no cure for cancer. If there
were a cure for cancer than the medical association wouldn't
make any money on it because it would probably come from a
plant or herb that couldn't be patented..If they can't patent it they can't sell it.Also people wouldn't have to pay for chemo and radiation where there is a lot of money to be made.I think there is a cure but the medical association wouldn't tell anybody about it if there was one..There is a lot of money to be made on people's misery.

You can't find just one cure for Cancer. There is no one single cause for cancer. There are as many different causes of cancer as there are people living.

That's like asking "why no cure for broken bones?"...cancer is HUNDREDS of diseases, most of which DO have great treatments, and a few of which have what amount to "cures".

It's a con - see http://www.newstarget.com/009587.html for good reasons why.
The WHO says 30% of cancers could be avoided with diet alone here - http://www.who.int/dietphysicalactivity/publications/facts/cancer/en/ . Tobacco use is the number one cause for cancer the WHO says.
"I look upon cancer in the same way that I look upon heart disease, arthritis, high blood pressure, or even obesity, for that matter, in that by dramatically strengthening the body's immune system through diet, nutritional supplements, and exercise, the body can rid itself of the cancer, just as it does in other degenerative diseases. Consequently, I wouldn't have chemotherapy and radiation because I'm not interested in therapies that cripple the immune system, and, in my opinion, virtually ensure failure for the majority of cancer patients."---Dr Julian Whitaker, M.D.
"As a retired physician, I can honestly say that unless you are in a serious accident, your best chance of living to a ripe old age is to avoid doctors and hospitals and learn nutrition, herbal medicine and other forms of natural medicine unless you are fortunate enough to have a naturopathic physician available. Almost all drugs are toxic and are designed only to treat symptoms and not to cure anyone. Vaccines are highly dangerous, have never been adequately studied or proven to be effective, and have a poor risk/reward ratio. Most surgery is unnecessary and most textbooks of medicine are inaccurate and deceptive. Almost every disease is said to be idiopathic (without known cause) or genetic - although this is untrue. In short, our main stream medical system is hopelessly inept and/or corrupt. The treatment of cancer and degenerative diseases is a national scandal. The sooner you learn this, the better off you will be."----Dr. Allan Greenberg 12/24/2002
See other quotes here - http://www.whale.to/cancer/quotes.html .
Cancer is one disease with many types per the WHO at http://www.who.int/features/factfiles/cancer/10_en.html . Cancer is caused a cell that has mutated (and possibly gone anerobic). Your body's immune system gets rid of cancerous cells per Dr. Guyton and Hall. Their "Textbook of Medical Physiology" eleventh edition says on page 41 - "Only a minute fraction of the cells that mutate in the body ever lead to cancer. There are several reasons for this. First, most mutated cells have less survival capability and simply die. Second, only a few of the mutated cells that do survive become cancerous, because even most mutated cells still have normal feedback controls that prevent excessive growth.
Third, those cells that are potentially cancerous are often, if not usually, destroyed by the body's immune system before they grow into cancer. This occurs in the following way: Most mutated cells form abnormal proteins within their cell bodies because of their altered genes, and these proteins activate the body's immune system, causing it to form antibodies or sensitized lymphocytes that react against the cancerous cells, destroying them. In support of this is the fact that in people whose immune systems have been suppressed, such as those taking immunosuppressant drugs after kidney or heart transplantation, the probability of a cancer's developing is multiplied as much as fivefold."
We know what happens that causes cancer - your body's immune system is overwhelmed or compromised and simply can't get rid of the cancerous cells quick enough. Guyton and Hall say that x-rays/radiation, chemical exposure, certain foods, heredity, and viruses all cause cancer. We know why we get it, we know how to avoid it, and we know we can reverse it without poisoning ourselves. With your immune system! See http://www.hacres.com , http://www.annieappleseedproject.com , http://www.bcaction.org , and http://www.cancertutor.com for more info.
