Our beloved prophet(PBUH) asked us before he died to say peace be upon him every time we say his name. He asked us to and out of respect. Most muslims also say this when talking about all of Allah's prophets

To respect him.
we (Muslims) usually say:
Muhammad (Sall Allah alay he va ale he va sallam )
that means:
Muhammad(God, send him and his family greeting and praise and good regards)

but in English we say (Peace be upon him.)

(we say the same thing after all holly persons... like all prophets.)
