My fiance and I met on July 4th. Since we met i planned on getting married to him on the same day. Now that I am looking up information about weddings everything seems to think that the "theme" of the wedding needs to be patriotic. I don't want this theme or colors, do you think I can do what I want for the color scheme?

Heck yes, it's your wedding, do whatever color scheme you want to! I think red, white, and blue would be a little over-the-top anyway. =) Congrats!

Of course! Do whatever you want for colors and theme. It doesn't matter what they think, it's your wedding. You and your fiance get to pick the colors. Pick what you like and what looks good.

Honestly, a 4th of july patriotic wedding would look a little cheap, tacky, "backyard bbq" to me. You may want to think of taking advantage of fireworks though. Maybe look for a private viewing area.

Its a wedding not a 4th of July BBQ, right? You have every right to have the colors you want!
As an aside, make sure you put a note on your invitiations as to the appropriate attire to be worn to your wedding if it is formal or semi-formal. You don't need people thinking it is casual due to 4th of July if that is not what you want to have.

I am planning a Halloween wedding, and everyone I tell says "oh! goody! I can dress up in costume!". Which is not what we want at all so we've already agreed we must note "semi-formal" on the invites.

Hi and congratulations!

Yes, you most certainly can have whatever color scheme you want! Around the 4th, there is so much red, white and blue and it would be refreshing to go to a wedding and not see those colors. Choose whatever colors YOU (and your fiance) like! Good luck!

I think you can do whatever you like, but as a guest, I would totally be expecting a red white and blue day. So be prepared for people's surprise at a July 4th wedding that is done in pinks.

My husband and I just got married on July 7 of this year. When we picked the date we thought a patriotic theme would be neat, but changed our minds! We opted for red, coral and silver. The bridesmaids wore red dresses, carried coral pink roses and red roses, I carried mostly red roses with some coral pink and white stephanotis. The vases on the tables were shiny silver with coral pink and red roses and we had silver sashes on our white chair covers...just an idea :)

Sidenote: I just re-read your question...YES, you can do whatever you want for the color scheme! But if guests choose to wear something 'patriotic' (hey, people usually do on the 4th of July) then that's their prerogative :)

Absolutely! Maybe make sure that your guests are aware that it is not going to be themed patriotic by having the invitation in your wedding color...

Its your wedding...do whatever you want....i think if you did go with the whole patriotic theme that would be rather tacky....do what you want....at least most people will already be off work that day so you wont have to worry about people not being able to come...lol.....

Silly me but I think the best theme for weddings is MARRIAGE. Use what ever colors you like, you don't have to follow what's expected.

Congrats and good luck.

Yes you can pick different colors. As a matter of fact, please do something other than a patriotic theme. I've seen pic's from a few and they are not pretty.
Yay, you can have fireworks for your wedding. That's awesome.
