I'm a little embarress to say this but I'll say it. I'm 13 years old and I WEIGH 150. It's very hard for me to lose weight and I try. It's like, when i try to eat healthy... I end up eating the wrong type of healthyness or too much of it. For ex: I love mashed potatoes with string beans together. But thats unhealthy (well thats what my family says). I'm also a vegetarian too so no meat for me (and i dont want it either). I want to exercise and i do.. i walk for 37 minutes every afternoon per day. But its the eating that gets me. Help me, what should I DO! A 13 year old girl shouldn't weigh this much though it's less than some of my frends weight. Some are the same age but weigh 20 ponds heavier.

Along with your walking you need to do some weight training! Many people think that cardio is the most important thing to do to lose weight when that's not totally true. You must do weight lifting as well... Building muscle helps burn fat. For example... you know how you have that sore feeling after working out? Well that sore feeling is from your muscles repairing themselves and they repair themselves by burning fat.. basically! Sorry if that made no sense! Anyway, I would keep doing the cardio, start doing some weight/strength training and just watch what you eat.. oh and be sure to drink LOTS AND LOTS of water!

Also, Self.com has a lot of great programs you can sign up for. My favorite is Self Goal! Check it out! Its a four week program... They really work!

I weighed 150 pounds when I was 13 too. Doesn't mean I looked fat. It's possible you have some muscle that makes the scale say you weigh heavier. But having muscle is good, it means you can burn calories throughout the day. Try not to compare yourself to others. Even if others are skinnier than you, it doesn't mean they are healthier. They may get by skipping breakfast and eating chips and cola for lunch, but it doesn't mean they are healthy. You have a very good diet, in my opinion
.
I don't think mashed potatoes or string beans are unhealthy either. They both have a lot of nutrition in them and string beans are really good for protein. Maybe it's not that you're eating unhealthy, but that your family is a bit uninformed as to what is healthy. A lot of diets out there say that carbs like potatoes are bad, but I think what they mean is that the sour cream and cheese that people put on them are too fattening. The potato itself is very good for you and contains nutrients like potassium and fiber that are good for the body.

I applaud your efforts to stay vegetarian :) Keep up the good work and don't let anyone say what you are doing is unhealthy. If it feels good to you, it's probably just fine.

It really depends on your height. If 6 ft. tall you are probably OK. If 5 ft. you are too heavy.

80 % of the callories you take in are used to maintain body heat. Calories are a measure of heat produced. Look it up in the dictionary.

Think about how much energy it would take to heat a pan with 150 lb. of water from room temp to 98.6 degrees.

If you are chilly, you will burn off more weight.

Since it is the fall time of year, our bodies have a natural tendency to add some weight for winter.

Do not concentrate on loosing weight. Your subconscious mind does not want you to loose anything. Is loosing anything good? When we are growing up, we got in trouble for loosing our lunch money or our jacket or our little brother. As an adult we loose our way or our car keys or a relationship. Subconsciously our mind is saying " No way am I loosing anything. Anything you loose, I am getting back, and more!

Set a goal weight. Figure one pound a week. If your goal is 30 lbs. you have 30 weeks. Weigh yourself every day. After you have reached that "goal" weight for the week you are home free until next week. Eat anything you want, just in moderation. You will be surprised on which days your weight goes down and what you ate that day.

Don't just set a 5 lb goal. When you reach it, your subconscious has decided that is the correct weight for you and it will be much harder to reach your next goal.

When you eat your mashed potatoes & green beans you should have it with a source of protein,

Boiled egg, peanut butter (with portion size), and other things I can't think of now.
