A note to PD--A political science teacher has no choice but to talk about politics.
It is legal to discuss religion in a public school. It is illegal support one religion over another. I have no problem with a teacher letting the students know what he/she believes, but that doesn't mean the teacher can expect the students to agree. However, if absolutely no religious beliefs were allowed, how would values be defined?

If you want something to happen: Take your case to the local newspaper. The publicity will cause action.
Keep in mind, if you live in the bible belt where the fundies run the school boards, they'll take your teacher's side and you'll be the ones accused of wrong doing.
Personally, you and your friend are in the right. Your teacher is a douche-bag and should be fired over this.

is that this a public college? regardless of if that's then the instructor telling the atheist scholar stuff like it incredibly is an attempt at conversion. that would desire to be prohibited strikes. She should not be doing that. regardless of if that's a private college then it relies upon on the school. To get this resolved think approximately to get criminal help. you may attempt creating a grievance to the school and notice what occurs. locate out a thank you to try this wisely. purely chatting with a critical won't be seen an respected request and the school might desire to not take any action. optimistically, this instructor isn't grading your atheist chum distinctive than the different scholars because of the fact of ideals. that would desire to honestly effect in a discrimination lawsuit.

Unless you are attending a religious school your teacher should not be pushing his religious beliefs in class. He has a right to them for himself but not to tell his students they should all believe the same way he does or they are wrong nor to condemn students who don't share beliefs. His job is to teach the class not proselytize.

there are two things no teacher should mention in a classroom
-politics
-religion
I have never had a teacher/professor push either one on me
Even while attending catholic school - we had religion class, but nothing was forced - some students were muslim and jewish and nothing was forced on them.
edit
Yes, i had a pol sci class - we had open debates in the class, but the professor never took one side or the other.( I meant - force on - not mention)

Clearly he wasn't teaching English or typing.
Social Studies is about getting students to think and to act. At least this guy has got you to do that. So what if he disagrees with you? Do you think the rest of your life will consist of people only agreeing with you?
Perhaps you should not have gotten detention but disagreements well thought out is how we learn.

You should really report this to the principal if your teacher is cussing you out. He's an adult, you're children. There's no excuse for his behavior.

Take the situation to your teachers superior (asst. principal or the school principal). They cannot penalize you for that situation. If nothing else tell your parents and get legal aid.
