Just as soon as they get into a situation where they don't "have a prayer to their names"; literally; they try to go run to the the one "possible" place that can help them. They may not have the right understanding about who the True God is. Thay may falsely run to some religious belief system. Yet, in they're desperation, and hopelessness, they acknowledge that, THERE is a "God". Unfortunately, by that time, they often are not cognizant enough to find the True God of heaven and earth. Often times ending up with false religions and false faiths that lead to the same doomed destruction.
I like to tell those that "have an ear to hear"......"seek Him while He yet can be found (while you are able too)".

Premohol, Thanks. If a "man" falls off of a cliff; he's going to call aout to "God". It's his "last" hope.

Because Atheists are so arrogant and spiritually bankrupt, they cant believe that any higher power could of created them. To Atheists , Atheists are the highest and mightiest power in the universe.

>How come when people hit ROCK BOTTOM, they never "go running to atheism"?
Because atheism per se doesn't provide you with a nice imaginary friend who can right all the world's wrongs. Atheism by itself doesn't give you any emotional support.

Hold on a second! Let's get this straight here. Theists may not try to get emotional support from atheism, true. But what you seem to be suggesting now is that atheists try to get emotional support from theism. Sorry, but that is just plain false. If you want to argue against atheism, I recommend against trying to discredit the atheists by claiming that they really are theists deep down. Why? Well, for one thing, atheists could turn the same argument around and use it against you just as effectively. And for another thing, it makes it look like you're grabbing at straws, which in turn suggests you've failed to back your arguments up with actual evidence. It's really not a very good idea.

I have found those that have hit "rock Bottom" often do turn to atheism not because they feel that they are going to get help that way but because they feel forsaken by there God, how could he do this to them, why wont he answer his prayers, and why did he have to take so many away, I have seen it in a lot, almost as often as I have seen rock bottom lead people to Christ, the difference is many that turn to atheism do not return to God, not so true the other way around

because the people who hit "rock bottom" who are usually in your scenario are the type of people who got there through alcohol, drug or gambling additiction.
they are "addictive" personalities and when tossed a "lifeline" in religion, they find a way to switch that part of thier personality towards something that is more positive that gives them hope rather than something that will destroy it.
religion may do damage to a person's life- but you will have a hard time arguing that bieng at "rock bottom" because of a more serious addiction is not far far worse.
turning to a fitness or sport addiction is another alternative, but that is not something that is usually broadcast and promoted all over the place.

I couldn't agree more. There's nothing more annoying than people running to false religions and faiths. I hate it when looney toons like scientologists start quoting L Ron Hubbard and taking alien classes. The most annoying however must be the catholics and christians, reading stories out of this book they call the bible. Absolute nonsense. Someday they'll all wake up and come to the church of Jack-O. I really love the tax advantages of running my own religion!

Christians are mistakenly pround of the fact that belief in God comes when people are scared to death or otherwise desperately upset about actual reality. It does not help their case that God exists.

"How come when people hit ROCK BOTTOM, they never "go running to atheism"?"
THIS is why I come to Y!A - the comedy is of a very high standard and fundies' use of the absolute statement using words like "they never" brings tears of joy to my eyes.
Contrary to the story-teller's assertions, people become atheist for all sorts of reasons including hitting "ROCK BOTTOM".
When someone wakes up and realises there are no Invisible Sky Critters to help them outa the hole they're in, they soon start to realise reality has limitations and only by his own efforts will he extract himself from his predicament.
Prayers are never answered - notice all the starving children in the world?
A universe WITH a god would be completely different to one without.
Thank YOU! for contributing to another wonderful day.
I'm fairly basic - I like pointing and laughing.

You said it yourself. People turn to God out of desperation and fear.
Ergo, God is fear and desperation-based belief.
Not a very strong basis for faith, if you ask me.

Many people hit "rock bottom" at the loser hypocritical churches with people who demand too much, drown you in unrealistic expectations, preach a twisted Gospel and basically destroy the faith of some people. - i.e. (if these are followers of Christ, then I want nothing to do with it!)
So you see some people DO then turn to athesiem when they hit rock bottom. So called "Christians" push them there. I'm sure the Lord is so pleased.
Anyway, while I'm sure many athesists are really non-believers, I would venture to say that most athesists are people who have been hurt by the church and "God's people." and are not really athesists at all. Just people who are hurting.

Not once have I run to your god. Not once during my darkest days. Sorry to disappoint you.
How arrogant to think that if I ever called on somebody, that it would be the Abrahamic god.

Because at least that gives some kind of hope. We don't all have the answers to everything....that's why "God" gave us free will....so we can choose for ourselves and not have some self righteous idiot tell us what to think! We're not lemmings!! GEEZ!!
