The best religion is only one!
Although all Abrahamic religions have many similarities,(such as same god, same commands, same concept on hidden world and...) their names are different... and their followers in result.
The best religion is only one!
and all holy prophets (like Abraham,Christ,Moses,Noah,Muhammad and...) just said one thing in different languages and for different peoples for different ages.although some commands are different but the basic of all are the same.
at least:

Christianity:
after Crista(pbuh) , there wear no gospels. then followers of him tried to write their remembrances of him as a gospel. after that many gospels wrote. then the main church choosed 4 books of those gospels as real gospels.
that is why sects of Christianity is so many

Islam:
before death of Muhammad(pbuh) he choosed Ali-son of Abootaleb- as his successor....but after death of Muhammad(pbuh) old followers of him made a council and (neglecting muhammad's opinion) choosed Aboobakr as successor.
that is why Islam has just tow sects.

Give Islam time. It has existed for a lot shorter period that Christianity.

Christianity at the same age only had one main sect, it was not until Martin Luther, 1500 years after (the alleged) messiah that Christianity had a major split of the Sunni/Shia level.

Also there are more divisions in Islam than you portray. There is Sufism. Shia is subdivided into Twelvers, Ismaili, the Seveners, and the Zaidiyyah. Sunnism is divided into Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali and Salafi.

So Allah is just as bad as getting his message clearly across is Jehovah or Christ. You would think an omnipotent being could do a better job.

Or could it be just men spinning the holy texts so it says what they want it to say and gives them power over a greater number of people?

Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Jews were divided into seventy-one sects, and the Christians were divided into seventy-two sects, and my Ummah (nation) will be divided into seventy-three sects.”

In Christianity, they call it denominations instead of sects. We hear mostly of two (shia and sunni) because they are the majority. Sunni are about 85% of the 1.5 billion Muslims and shia are about 10%, and then all the others fall into the rest.

These sects/denominations didn't come about cause Allah/God wanted it. As someone above stated, they came about because someone didn't like what was being taught and decided to go off and start his own little group. So you can see the original sect/denomination in all 3 faiths is the authentic and real one.

Simon T,
There is a difference between a sect and a school of thought. Sunni is a sect. The hanafi, shafi, maliki, hanabli, and salafi are school of thoughts, they all fall under the umbrella of Sunni. And same goes for others you mentioned in regards to their sects.

There might be only two sects in Islam but each Islamic country lives Islam in its own way, some has an Allatolah as a leader and some has an Mola, some wear beards and some not, some beat innocent women for being in a car with a non-relative and some don't, do you get the picture?

There are many sects in Islam
Maybe as many as in Protestant Christianity
Even conservative Muslims admit to at least 70 Sunni sects alone

why do you have take a perfectly fine question and ruin it with supid stuff like (made up) and "true"?

you may think what you want to think, but when you are asking a question, why do you purposely call forth an argument by saying something like that?

believe what you want to believe, but dont go calling those out that dont believe the same as you...

that is not what a true christian would do!

ps
the fact that there are more christian sections only makes it more complicated, confusing, and misunderstood.
because of that, we get alot more people who are rude and disrespectful, but yet claim to be christians. (and yes i am pointing a finger).

God didn't make any sects or religions. He offers us a relationship with Him through His son, Jesus. Anything else is just religion (made by man).

There are not many sects in Christianity...

you are either IN CHRIST or

your NOT.

Because one calls themself a Christian, that doesn't make them one.
