On CNN there was a story where a young pregnant woman was tasered by police after she had asked for assistance in surrendering her young child in arms. When she tried to leave with the child, she was tasered in the neck by an officer. It doesn't matter what the reason was for the officer to use his taser it was just not called for - according to the video clip shown on CNN. What is the matter with police these days? They actually believe that a taser isn't harmful or fatal and that just isn't so. There have been at least three deaths that have been attributed to the wrongful use of the taser. What more has to happen before the citizen advocacy boards that grant power to the police departments say "No more tasering unless the cop's life is in danger"?

let me first start by saying the media always wants to give out a bad name to the officers,it never shows when police are risking their lives and helping people in their duty at all time, and most of the time CNN actually cuts out some footage of why the force led to that situation. But i agree in Law Enforcement that would be called Excessive force, especially if she didnt have a weapon.

Ohio Officer Tasering Pregnant Woman Caught on Tape

Trotwood Public Safety Director Michael Etter said the incident happened on Nov. 18. He said the woman arrived at the police department asking to give up custody of her 1-year-old son.

Etter said his officer spoke with the woman as she held on to the child outside the police department.

"(He) attempted to obtain information on both the mother and the child, at which time the mother refused to give any information and became very agitated," Etter said.

Surveillance video from the police department shows the woman try to leave with the child. The officer then grabs her coat in an effort to get her to stop. Etter said the officer was doing what he thought was in the best interest of the 1-year-old boy.

The video shows the woman struggle with the officer, who then takes the child from her and gives the boy to another officer. The first officer then forces the woman down on her stomach, and he then deploys a Taser on her neck.

Etter said the officer did not know the woman was pregnant

Everyone, including police officers, have their own biases, but that doesn't give them the right to attack someone, especially physically, because they think that person is wrong. Many people with power and authority, such as police officers, think they can do whatever they want because they are in a position where they can get away with it. I'm not saying all police officers are that way, but some obviously need greater discipline and higher morals.

This kind of thing only happens when people fail to follow the orders given by police.
If she had done what the officer asked and given her information, she would not have been tasered.

( I'm sure he was worried what she would do to the young child after he told her that she couldn't just leave him there. What kind of person does that anyways? Sane, you think or maybe off the old rocker) .

Video clips don't show an entire situation. You'd have to be there in order to pass judgement on that officer.

For way too long cops have abused their power because the CAN. They think they are above us. They have attitudes that we must kneel before them or they can arrest us for whatever they decide to charge us with. The badge they wear is not there to abuse power, but a shield representing protecting and serving (at least in my book). I'm damn glad that we live in an age where any one of them can be photographed or video taped. It kind of levels the playing field against these cheaters.

call me crazy but it sounds like the officer didn't like the fact a woman could just give up her baby like that

maybe she needed a "jolt" of reality.

I wish people would stop coming on here just to bash cops. Read the story!!! She wanted to give up custody of her child. Do not feel bad for this woman!! She didn't even want the one she already has and she is pregnant with another one.

Try being a cop for 1 day. Then tell me why you would tase someone.
I'm glad my boyfriend has many options to PROTECT himself and others who obey and respect the law. Take your cop bashing elsewhere...the people who respect the police do not care what you have to say.

I am going to give myself a thumbs up for this one ((((THUMBS UP)))))

More evidence of the growing unchecked, power of law enforcement. When will they start officially doing drive bys of rival gangs?

I am getting so fed up with people bitching about cops and what they do... what if you were in trouble and a cop tased somebody for you... for your safety... the reason they have tasers is so they don't have to use their guns instead... try being a cop.. my dad is a cop and its a tough job to do... so unless you can do their job quit your bitchin
