Some bus lanes are in operation 24 hours a day,7 days a week. It is an offence for a car to use them at ANY time.

Some bus lanes have hours of operation (shown on the sign at the start of the lane). It is an offence for a car to use the lane during the hours of operation; cars are permitted to use the lane outside the hours of operation.

Bus Lanes - look for the Blue Sign on approach, if there are no times of opperation on the sign you cannot use the bus lane at any time.....it is always a bus lane. Where there are times on the sign for example,
7.30am - 9.30am
3.00pm - 6.30pm
this would show the times when the bus lane is for buses only......therefore you cannot drive in at those times. Some bus lanes only opperate in a morning or only in the afternoon.
Taxis can use the bus lanes but not private hire cars, and cyclists can use them. All the information is on the sign. Cameras can be fitted to catch drivers who use these lanes when they shouldn't. Hope this helps.

This varies. The use of bus lanes is goverened in the use of bye laws - that is laws enforceable at a local level; the last time I checked (admittedly a while ago) they were not even mentioned in the highway code. As a general rule taxis and pedal cycles are also allowed to use bus lanes.

No - only at times the bus lane isnt in force or the vehicle is exempt like police or ambulance vehicles & school buses. Taxi's (as in minicabs) can pick up and drop off by crossing a bus lane but cannot drive in one for any distance xxxx

No. Some bus lanes are not always bus lanes (if that's the case there'll be signs telling you the times), but during the times they ARE bus lanes, cars can't use them.

As far as i know you are not allowed to use them during the times stated on the signs that are on the lamp posts which is usually peak times...i'm sure you can outside of these times , i do and i've not been in trouble for it yet..but saying that i never use the ones that run down the centre of the the roads in some cities

Absolutely not. Unless stated otherwise.

Over San Francisco Bay Bridge one of the approaches is "bus lane only". However, there's another sign below that says "Carpool okay during carpool hours". A lot of people then drove on it during non-carpool hours and got nabbed, and can't figure out where they went wrong, and claim signage was confusing. It's not.

Bus lanes always have signposts displaying qualifying times. If it's outside the qualifying times, yes you can drive in them.
