Because the teddy bear is an inanimate object; this is considered an insult to the prophet.

FYI, even if the bear was real, the teacher would still be in trouble. Naming an animal after the prophet is also a no-no, since humans are higher in Allah's creation than animals. To name a lesser being after the prophet would be an insult.

Katholiks see nothing wrong with it,

because selling statues and crucifixes and beads is big business for the

Katholik church, to Muslims Mohammed is a important prophet,

so why would they call a teddy bear by that name.

Only pagans name their idols,

be it statues, i.e. Virgin Mary or some dead saint,

or a little teddy bear.

Its all paganism.

Hi,
It shouldn't make any sense. In fact nothing about Islam makes any sense, so why on God's green Earth should anything that religion does ever make any sense! And that my friends is why they kill and rape each other. And they've been doing it even before this Mohamed dude ever came into their messed up world, and they've been doing ever since. I guess he wasn't such a great man after all? And a prophet he certainly wasn't.

It doesn't make sense to you because it doesn't make sense, nor is it supposed to. It's a matter of finding some way to ostracize a Westerner on some hare-brained trumped-up charge of "offending" Islam. Last time I checked, Muhammed was dead, and wasn't asking his followers to defend him. Any SENSIBLE person would tell you that this whole case is rubbish, and that Sudanese neither seem to know nor care that this sort of barbaric, one-sided religious silliness will only further alienate them from the rest of the civilized world. Has anyone in Mexico been jailed or whipped for named their kid "Jesus"? Do you know of anyone in India who got in trouble for naming their pet fish "Ganesh"? I don't know of too many Buddhists who have flipped out because some kid wanted to name their stuffed animal "Buddha", but I doubt they'd care. There's a clear difference between religious tolerance and outright nonsense, and this definitely crosses that line.

Seeing that they're always fretting over the west "insulting Islam", I often wonder what arrogance drives their attitude towards insulting us in far more violent terms.
Draw a cartoon of Mohammed??...you should die!!
name a toy Mohammed??...40 lashes with a cat-o-nine-tails!
Why the "f" do we put up with these a-holes???

Numerous people say that "it's just like naming your dog Jesus" as if that's insulting.
The Christian belief is strong enough to put up with people calling their dogs Jesus, Joseph or Joshua. Is Islam so insecure that it can't take any form of criticism. So weak that it must enforce it's beliefs by law?
It's not a religion, and they're not worshipping any god. It's a political belief not a religious one.

Naming people after the prophet is a form of respect. Naming an object or an animal after the prophet is not, and their law prohibits it. It is that simple. I understand she got off light.

A student in the US was suspended for hoisting a banner that read "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" on private property during non-school time - is that so different?

I've been asking this all week.
I used to work in a school with a high number of Asian kids and there was one horrible, rude, naughty boy called Mohammed. Looking back, I think his parents should have been prosecuted as there's no way he was named in honour of the Muslim founder!

You are right. It doesn't make any sense. Methinks they are just looking for any excuse to kick off and throw their primitive laws around.
They will find out soon enough that not only is the world laughing at them, but people of the world will not tollerate their babarisms.
