the floors need to be done i am contemplating laminate and tile also the walls need to be painted. should i do the walls first then the floors?

Yes, work down. Just remember that both laminate and tile, though easy to keep clean, are hard on your feet and cold in the winter. Budget for some rugs to soften the hard surfaces and reduce echoes.

If you are buying the home and plan to be there for a period of time, go real wood instead of laminate. You cannot refinish laminate if something happens to it. Paint the walls first so you won't spill paint on the new floor or do damage dragging a ladder across them.

Paint first because that way if any paint gets on the floor it won't matter. Both flooring options are durable choices, but in my market tile resells better than laminate.
