I was exposed to two different versions of Mary's story:
* In the pentecostal church my family attended when I was young, the only specific thing I was taught was the doctrine of the virgin birth. However, the general atmosphere I was surrounded in was one of astonishment that a human woman was counted worthy to be the mother of God.
* I once read a children's book about the life of Jesus, as allegedly presented from Mary's point of view (i.e., the book was really about Mary's supposed view of Jesus). This book was an obvious smear job that presented Mary as being totally confused about everything that was going on, too dense to figure out that a virgin birth was a big deal, and never really quite able to accept the angel Gabriel's words until much later in life.
I will not post the name of the book here, because I haven't read it in a long time, so it's possible that my memory of the book may be worse than the book itself. But the fact that the book has left that sort of impression on me for the past 20 years says something, even if the literal content was a little more benign.
Needless to say, I accepted the version I was raised with, and I've moved toward an attitude of even greater respect over the years.

Thats she was a virgin who loves God ( not a sex thing but an obedience thing ) and who accepted the Holy Spirit placing the Child into her womb so that she was filed with grace.
Her role? Was for all the other women out here.. Jesus did not "need" a Mom. Remember? The Holy Spirit placed the Child into the womb and kings came to honor him at his birth. Her role for us was to show us to respect truth always and forever because the Truth does not abandon us nor lead us into sin.
I believe that after Jesus was born, she and Joseph began their life as a married couple and that she had other children. Reading scriptures tells you this.

1) She was his Mother and played a strong supportive role.
2) After his death? Jesus told John to take her in and I suppose he did. Nothing else is biblically known, because she isn't mentioned again in Scripture except that she was with the disciples at Pentecost, etc. She was a part of the early church - I assume an active member.
I don't know even the traditions of what happened historically.............but it's not mentioned in the Bible.

1) She was Christ's mother. What role does your mother play in your life?
2) She was married when she was an early teen. Visited by an angel, she conceived the child of God. She was pure, without sin. That is why she was able to be blessed with this Christ child. When she died, she ascended into Heaven.
