I tell my kids, that people who make wrong choices aren't always bad (the choice is, the person might not be), and that when they make those choices it is because they have forgotten Jesus loves them. Might sound a little cheesy, but it helps them to remember not to judge, to be kind and respectful, but that they don't have to like the person. IHmm... those are my thoughts hope they make sense.

That question is a hard one. Since just about any action can be justified to be moral to a large portion of people, it is subjective.
I think that there is a basic moral law, which involves two main principles:
1 Do all that you agree to do
2 Do not encroach on others or their property
I think that these two rules pretty much cover all grounds, but since nobody is perfect, just "how" you define good or bad is still open to interperation.

There are six things that Jehovah does hate; yes, seven are things detestable to his soul: lofty eyes, a false tongue, and hands that are shedding innocent blood, a heart fabricating hurtful schemes, feet that are in a hurry to run to badness, a false witness that launches forth lies, and anyone sending forth contentions among brothers. Also are you guilty of disobeying any of these easy commandments:
1. Jehovah is your God Their are NO other gods.
2. Do not Worship symbols of god
3. Using God's name for personal gain is wrong
4. Set aside a day of the week for Jehovah
5. Make your parents proud of you
6. Do not Murder anyone.
7. Do not have extramarital sex
8. Do not steal anything.
9. Do not tell lies about anyone
10. Do not wish for other people's possessions.

By nature, we are all born "bad" due to the sin handed to us down through the generations from Adam.
As sinners, it is a struggle to be good, not bad. Many examples prove this... We must teach our children to be good, not bad. Then there are all of the laws required to maintain simple peace... and of course, the most misunderstood of all, the 10 commandments.
The 10 commandments are taken for granted as divine rules that should signify or guide us on how to live good clean lives. Actually, the 10 commandments were given to show mankind that he could not live a clean life on his own after Satan decieved mankind.
Any attempt to try and be good must answer the ultimate question.... in whose eyes, mankind's or God's? While the commandments do serve the purpose, they alone do not deliver the kind of goodness and holiness God requires of His own.
Living by the 10 commandments alone without God can and will send a soul to hell as fast as not believing at all. The reason why is that trying to live righteous without God breeds self-righteousness....
One of Satan's biggest lies, deceptions and weapon that has costs more people their soul is the notion or belief that "I AM A GOOD PERSON... I HELP OTHERS, DO GOOD THINGS AND LIVE BY THE 10 COMMANDMENTS NEVER HURTING ANYONE"... which sounds logical, but is not biblical.
Without God, a seemingly spotless life is as of fithy rags as we see in ISAIAH 64:6 - "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."
If we could be good enough our selves to get to Heaven, then what was the purpose of God sending the Savior to be beaten, spit on, abused, brutally beaten and crucified to death by the hand of His own creation?
Seeing the Kingdom of Heaven is not possible without God.

Someone who mentally, physically, or verbally cuts someone down. IE: Abuse of any kind is no better than murder for it is murder of that person's spirit and overall being. At least the murdered ones are put out of their misery.

What makes a bad person ...what?
Nothing "makes" a bad person.
Nothing makes a "bad" person.
By the time a person does something you think is "bad", he or she was that way long before you saw anything.
Don't blame it on Satan: blame it on Christianity.
