Try a warm to hot bath at night before you go to bed. Take a pain reliever at bedtime; Tylenol, Motrin, Alleve. If it's Motrin or Alleve be sure to take with food or milk.
You can try heating pad on your legs in the evening before bed while watching TV.
Take care.

I do feel sorry for your condition and understand how distressing as well as trying this condition is for you. There are some issues which I an worried and confused about. You have not stated if a physician is treating you. I am a bit concerned that despite such an advanced disease you physician is still using only tablets and not insulin injections. You say that you blood sugars are under control: Have you had your sugar levels tested regularly and at different labs. Obviously Diabetes for 10 years is a devastating disease. The main issues that you have described relate to the toxic nature of excess sugar on the nerves carrcying sensation to your hands and legs. I would recommend that you seea endocrinologist or physician who specialises in diabetes. You must get instruction on proper foot care: Do not walk bare foot Wear diabetic foot wear Examine your feet daily for cuts, wounds, glass or thorns Cut you nails regularly and carefully Keep the bathroom door unlocked Install a chair in the bathroom and sit at all times Preferably have someone at hand for help Do not handle hot pans and be careful in the kitchen Consult a reputable doctor in a good hospital Regular check ups or blood sugar, eyes and kidney Please enquire as to why you are still on oral tablets and not insulin injections. If they are not required then thats ok. But if they are indicated and not used then it can result in severe damage and even death. I have used basic grammer and a simplistic approach to answer a question that has not been asked. Hence there may be some issues which may need more clarification and Im sure that a reputable doctor will be able to do this. Hope this helps

I'm not sure if you are experiencing what I do, but all my life (I am 19) I have gotten severe leg pain, focused around my knee [mostly the left one] and it almost always happened at night. I've been to the doctor for it but the doctor said it was just growing pains (complete crap). I am just finding out that I might have fibromyalgia but I'm not sure if thats related. So I guess I can't really help you in the 'what is it, for sure' thing (sorry, lol.) but as for taking care of this pain, I usually take two aleve, if its moderate. But I've also found that propping my legs up relieves some of the pain. When I was little, my doctor recommended these stretches (like laying on my back and lifting my leg up, holding it) but honestly I can't remember if it helped, but I figured I'd throw it out there.
Wow.. that really didn't help at all, I'm sorry :-\

Sounds like a central herniated disc in your low back which is more serious than your typical herniated disc. If you can tolerate it, apply a cold pack to the area 20 mins on and 40 mins off. Repeat as necessary to control the pain and swelling of the disc. If you don't improve by within the next few days or getting worse, I recommend to see a doctor right away.

Oh, whatever you do, do NOT use a heat. You will make that disc swell even more and make it far worse.

This could be a symptom of restless leg syndrome(an urge to move or pains in the legs that occurr mainly at night) or signs of a more serious condition(Fibromyalgia,M.S. etc). Look Up RLS on line for some ideas on how to help it without meds. I hope this helps.

Could be RLS. Restless Leg Syndrome.

My mom has really bad pains in both of her legs. Has for several years now and sometimes it keeps her awake all night. Just take some tylenol pm before you go to bed.

This is restless leg syndrome. You stop moving but, your legs don't want to, right. Go to your doctor, he has a simple pill for this.

it might be restless legg syndrome, but it might also be that you are low on potassium. before you go to bed, try eating a banana, or if you don't like bananas, get some potassium suppliments. Hope you feel better soon.
