The best thing: As long as you don't screw up, you have great job security for 20 years. Depending on your rank when you retire, you will get a nice little paycheck (pension) every month for the rest of your life.
The worst thing: You run the risk of being separated from your family for extended periods of time (currently 12 - 18 months for soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan).

And you don't know the answer?
The comradeship is the best thing , my wife and I could travel through 45 states and be able to stay with a friend every night.
The worst thing is of course war.

It is something I am proud of. I love showing off my war medals , pictures, and coins to my friends. Most of my friends I met in the ARMY or in college. Only downside, delayed graduation from college by 2 years but I graduated as soon I got back. Never know when you are going to deploy somewhere.

Best: The traveling and the experience of living in new states/countries.
Worst: The EIGHTEEN month long deployments to Iraq, and the misery of living in fear of my husband never coming home...

The best thing is the comraderie among the soldiers. The worst thing is having to take orders from people that you don't respect.

Seperation from home and family.
Required by law to show respect to those with a certain rank, whether they deserved it or not.
Required to follow orders that you may find moraly repugnant.
Can't think of anything good.
