This is one reason I do not agree with religion... and one reason I cannot understand why any woman would either.

Well, I am a Christian, just so you know why I believe the way I do.
You're correct, God is not male or female. He is God. I only use 'He' because it's more personal than 'It'.
Being a Christian, no, I don't believe that men created God to reign over women. I do think that men have historically picked certain verses from the Bible to make the assertion that men are above women. However, they don't supply any context to the verses or the culture they were written in.
Sadly, many people take verses from the Bible to support their own agenda. Then they say their selfish actions are the will of God. And they give Christians a bad name.

Have you ever thought about the fact the God created the heavens and the earth--the ocean, the plants, the sky, animals, light, and so many beautiful creations, and then finally, man! Wow! How breathtaking and amazing! But after all of that, things still weren't right. Man NEEDED woman or things just wouldn't be the perfect place that God had in mind. As Stasi and John Eldredge say in their book Captivating, "She [Eve] is the crescendo, the final, astonishing work of God. Woman. In one last flourish creation comes to a finish not with Adam, but with Eve...not an afterthought...she fills a place in the world that no one else can fill...the mission to be fruitful and conquer and hold sway is given to both Adam and Eve...she is a partener in this great adventure..." Man and women were created as equals to be parteners and share in God's creation. I highly encourage you to read chapter 2 of Captivating as it continues to explore themes of gender roles and dispells ideas of man having a high place in creation than woman. I'm so glad that you didn't take your teacher's word for this. Keep exploring!

In High School we called it Language Arts. In real life we call it grammar check...
To answer your question: No. God has always been, and there are quite a few rules for man to follow in order to have the privilege of "ruling" everything. We can just lord around and say we're kings of our house. We have to follow very specific guidelines that God set down for man. Women have them too. It just isn't about man ruling over women. While that is what it would be in a nutshell, women have some very...powerful...abilities when it comes to being able to get what they want.

I believe God is both male AND female therefore Godde. In the bible the sanscript name for the holy spirit is female and part of God, therefore God is both a male God and female Godess.
I beieve the patriachal nature of the society and male scribes, and of course the catholic church and re-writing of the bible by kings orders made 'God' to be male only, when i believe this was just an inference not fact.

The Bible says that God is a spirit, neither male nor female. He created male and female in his image, after his likeness, and he made male and female for one another, to compliment each other and kind of balance things out.

When the bible was translated, Men ruled. They used He and Father because if it. I do not believe in the christian "god" mainly because of this. Most people don't know that women "ruled" and were highly respected before christianity. We should go back to that.
