He preaches a "feel good" theology that tickles the ears of his congregation and television audience. In short: He sold out.
Sin is the biggest problem in our society today. When you watch the news and hear about all the murders, robberies, rapes, child abuse, et.al. just substitute the word sin for each of these crimes. We don't need to go to a "church" to hear someone preach a message that makes us feel good or hear that God wants all of us to be rich. The Bible says:
There is none righteous, no, not one. Romans 3:10
For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
The wages of sin are death. Romans 6:23
But God commendeth His love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
I would say to Joel Osteen and all who preach the same message: if there is no sin, then why did Jesus have to die on the cross?

I have never personally heard Joel Osteen preach.
I would generalize things and say that a preacher that "never" speaks on the consequences of sin is doing his congregation and the world as a whole a great disservice.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
People want to feel good. Joel makes people feel good. Like a hospice, he just makes the lost feel better before they die because he does not have the cure.

Because he is a "feel good" prosperity preacher. He doesn't want anyone to hear anything bad. He doesn't preach the whole truth, and that's just like lying to people. They are having their "ears tickled" that's the way the Bible puts it. that's not a good thing, because if you are a pastor, you are held more accountable because you are leading other people astray. He will have to answer for that.
"And they will raise up for themselves false teachers."

To me, Osteen is more of a motivation speaker than a preacher of the Word. However as much as I hate saying this, maybe if he did preach repentance- less people would be at his church. This may sound judgmental but it is a possibility.

well he teaches that we and our flesh is whats important our feelings should be the way to salvation. when Christ said that because we love him we will be looked down on. and when we accept him we are apart of his kingdom and not of this world the world will look and cast us aside. to many people want to feel good about things in life and be accepted. and look towards man for approval and salvation of any kind. God through Jesus Christ is our only salvation and our greatest reward will be with him.

It makes people feel bad. He's a modern day self-help, personal motivation speaker laced with biblical scripture and a big helping of good feelings.

2 Timothy 4:3, "People will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled."
He likes to avoid any scriptures talking about avoiding materialism to concentrate on those saying God wants us to be rich....where he stops. He never mentions God wants us rich in spiritual things we can keep, not material things we lose too easily.

He tells people what they want to hear. He is failing to be a good preacher.
