ok, so i have pretty nice teeth......except for one tooth! its an "eye tooth" and its on the left side of my mouth. the tooth is sticking inward and is behind my other teeth on either side of it. when you look at me from the left or straight on when i smile or even talk it looks like im missing a tooth. AND I CANT STAND IT!!!!! im all about how your teeth look, its a very important thing to me. my dentist, instead of putting braces on me, wants to pull the tooth out and fill it with bonding. he said that the bonding will harden and will stay in place and look like a real tooth. im not too sure about going through with this opperation though. Im a junior in highschool and i dont want to mess up my teeth before college. i dont know what to do. this will be a quick fix, but is it worth it? and will it look like a real tooth and stay that way for a very long time? it is a perminant tooth so its kinda a BIG deal. advice?

Don't Do it! The eye teeth are the most important teeth in the mouth! They form the arch. My daughter's eye teeth were severely crooked, turned backwards, too. The first ortho we saw wanted to pull 4 of her teeth. "Eyes" included. We weren't comfortable with that and my dad (a DDS) said that would be a huge mistake. Also, EVERY single other orthodontist said DO NOT mess with the eye teeth. They laughed when I told them someone wanted to extract one. Shop around. The consultations are free. We FINALLY found a great orthodontist that can fix her teeth with braces only.
By the way it took us 4 different consultations before we found a great orthodontist. 2 of them informed us the one doc who wanted to pull her eye tooth had a very bad reputation and botched a lot of work.
NEVER pull a tooth unless it is necessary for health reasons.
Please listen!
*Why do you think people try so hard to save even a rotten tooth with root canals? Here you are pulling out a healthy tooth.* Best wishes...

First of all, yes, the bonding should look like a real tooth and stay looking like a real tooth. If you really don't want to go through with this procedure, see an orthodontist. There are alternatives to braces. Getting the bonding done won't "mess your teeth up", so either one of these options would work. Personally, if I was in your situation I would do the bonding because it would be a shorter process, however, going to see an orthodontist for alternatives would allow you to keep the tooth, which essentially is better.

Hope this helps!

bonding should not require an operation. they should be able to put the bonding over top of the tooth and make it look even with the other teeth. this is also called 'instant orthodontics'.

bonding is not permanent, it can come off especially since it is a front tooth and you bite and chew with it a lot.

HELLO,

REMOVING A GOOD TOOTH JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE ITS POSITION IS NOT A GOOD ENOUGH REASON.
LIMITED ORTHODONTICS SHOULD BE AN OPTION.
SEE AN ORTHODONTIST AND DISCUSS YOUR CASE.
