the fact that you even know how many calories you are eating in a day is kind of part of your answer .. stop counting and eat.. eat a well balanced healthy ish diet and excercise a few times a week and stop stressing about it.

Something very general I learned in a nutrition class is that to maintain the weight you are at- multiply your current weight by 16 and that's how many calories you can eat without worrying. If you are trying to lose weight- you should mulitply that number by 13. There is a far more complex formula based on exercise, body type, etc but this is pretty easy.

Of course, I would hope if you are trying to lose weight you would be cognizant of the fact that the calories in a Big Mac are different than those in a turkey sandwich, but that's another topic.

Let's put this into perspective:

If your intake is 900 calories a day, you are considered to be starving yourself. So, just 300 more calories than that isn't much better (you will be tired, cranky, and lose energy that will be needed to help you exercise).

1500-1600 calories today is the right amount to eat, but it will depend on what you are eating, too. Different things work with different people, and the best way to take in your calories is through variety (don't stick with one "safe food" that you like! This puts weight loss on hiatus!).

As with any weight loss plan, it is mandatory to do some form of exercise. Sometimes that word scares people, until they think about what burning calories is: for instance, do you like to shop? Why not get a pedometer and not leave the mall until you've walked 2 miles. Sounds hard, but it is entirely do-able! One little thing I started doing was walking to work -- it's a little less than a mile to get to my work, so I walk there every day, enjoy the scenery, then walk back every night.

One great method I have learned for staying focused on a plan is outdoing myself by just a little bit, every day. For instance, instead of driving my garbage to the dumpster, I will walk it up, or instead of ordering a pizza, I will fry up some vegetables. It really only takes little improvements to get long lasting results, and it is once you realize this that you will begin to lose weight and feel healthier.

Weight loss depends very little on what you eat (unless you are eating McDonalds every day) and very much on what you do. As always, cardio is the best form of exercise to drop pounds. Once you start dropping pounds, you will actually want to eat better and it will come naturally. Another thing -- if you are at all depressed, it is a great way to come out of that. A large part of the reason I would not exercise was because I was unhappy, but the first step of getting out of that is motivating yourself. That garbage scenario I provided? It was the first thing I started doing to help me become more active.

I promise you, just take it up a tiny notch every day, and not only will you feel great, but you'll start dropping pounds without even focusing on it (I lose about 1.5-3 pds a weeks). Want to know something cool? Last night I ate pizza and ice cream, and it didn't interfere with what I am doing.

Focus more on what you do and less on what you eat, and you will go far.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

actually, it would be better to eat 15-001600 calories a day cuz ur body wont go in o starvation mode and u wont feel hungry either...usually people who eat that many calories(1200) end up binging, being obsessed with food, and actually gaiing weight...thats not too much to eat, its just right...

I'm not really sure, but perhaps you could search Yahoo! or Google for some diet plans and things like that.

Also, another thing that might help you lose weight would be exercise and eating healthy.
