I don't find it offensive......Some people just don't understand and they want all the attention. That's what is wrong with the world today. People can be cruel. But ya gotta love em.......God Bless LoveChrist

Hello,
It falls under the fallacy of emotional appeal. Aside from the hasty generalization fallacy, it is the most often used tactic in augment which totally invalidates the argument as far as an academic debating society would rule.
On the other hand, for the masses and even the court system, this tactic never fails to work since it takes attention away from the from the argument itself and goes after the credibility of the debater in question.
Cheers,
Michael Kelly

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. People can be very intelligent, and still get stuck on an ideology, that makes them discount whole areas of knowledge as useless. One must be really careful, about thinking you know so much, that you can easily dismiss the knowledge of others. People who use insulting terms so readily, are letting their emotions get the better of them, which is not a good sign intellectually.

yes, they are trying to compensate for the inability to swear at them on here. Really, when someone here is called an idiot, its because they've said something totally stupid or offensive

Usually. But if they happen to be very demeaning or insulting, an occasional "you're an idiotic moron...get a clue" might be appropriate.

They probably think highly of themselves and believe they know what's right.
