well stem cell research involves taking cell from a yet unborn child inside the womb of its mother.... stem cells are themselves primary cells which have not yet specialised and which will develop into the babies brain liver heart and all other organ.... taking stem cell from a featus will result in severe deformation of certain organ... maybe non formation of other and in worst case senario will result in non formation or malformation of vital organs and consequent death of the yet unborn child... on the other hand the most recent research i collaborated in was the regeneration of damaged nerves so that a previously completely paralysed patient (usually post traumatic that is after an accident which resulted in herniation of the spinal cord or severe damage to it) will regain full recovery by injection of the stem cells at the site of the nerve injury... basically stem cell research open endless medical theories about tissue regeneration (kind of science fiction stuff i know but believe me its for real!) for already alive people mostly children or adults not really elderly ones though but then it involves killing babies not yet born... so you may imagine why all researches have been officially suspended...

I have the opinion that it is beneficial because i have a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, which is one of the diseases that can be cured or healed/treated with stem cell research..we need more advances in medical research and stem cell is the way to go.Also, after seeing several family members die due to cancers,i believe that this research will help all future cancer patients survive.

A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS... but there is such a thing as adult stem cells! Not just embryonic stem cells! This is the thing that most people are against. It is illegel to study embryonic stem cells, but not adult stem cells!!! Also, doctors don't tell the pregnant women "Yeah, I'm gonna take some cells from your unborn child." Did you ever hear of donating the newborn's umbilical cord? That's how they get embryonic stem cells?

Both. For because it could possibly help prevent/cure cancers- stem cells from adults are also used. No because it may go to far- like cloning humans- just to experiment and that creates controversy- it doesn't help anything in that sense
