I read this article on yahoo and teacher went to jail for her students being alloud to call a teddy bear Mohammed? I don't understand why this is so horrible. Mohammed is a biblical name but it's also just a name. I don't get it.

Because naming an inanimate object after their most revered prophet is considered highly disrespectul to Mohammed and to Allah.

Hmmm... Some good points here. I'm a Mormon, and we have our own prophet, too. Frankly, I would be happy for anyone to call a teddy bear Joseph Smith, either as a joke or not.

But if someone named their teddy bear Jesus Christ I would feel that something sacred had been made fun of. I think that's the point. Muslims obviously hold Mohammed's name as sacred, as they always say PBUH (peace be upon him) after they state his name. Hence, a desecration of the sacred... It is understandable to me that some would find this insulting.

However, I think the intentions of the teacher and students would also have a bearing upon the judgment. It seems a bit extreme to deport her. I think the 15 days in prison would certainly serve to show her, the students and the populace the seriousness of desecrating a sacred name.

EDIT: 15 days in the relative luxury of a Western prison would not be so harsh a thing... but certainly she doesn't deserve lashes or death! Where is the mercy in that?

But what are the real facts? All you've given us is a tiny snippet of a news article... Not much to make an accurate assessment on (so I'm not taking my own assessment all that seriously, ATM).

Well it would be a bit weird if you called a bear like Jesus or some other prophet but they've way over-reacted and it wasn't her who chose the name,it was her primary school children who voted for it.She did it without realising. And mohammed is not a biblical name,it's a quaranic or islamic name.

To be truthful, naming the teddy submit to Mohammed isn't so poor. Im conversing of a Muslim point of view right here. we might desire to look on the a number of cultures. See in the West, we see teddies as being amazing, comfortable and something to cuddle up with. In Sudan bears are seen as viscious animals and consume human beings. by way of naming the teddy Mohammed grow to be to them being seen as though they have been callin Mohammed a terrible individual etc. It grow to be a extensive fake effect.

In Islam you're not suppose to portray Muhammad at all in any from. So by calling the teddy bear Muhammad they are portraying him in a sense. I think they went a little over board on the punishment, hell she wasn't even from there let alone Islam, why should she be punished? The STUDENTS should have known better, but they everyone thinks differently, what is reality and what is right and wrong? THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW!

For some Muslims the name Mohammed is overly sacred and naming a Teddy Bear is just not acceptable. Unfortunately, those folks can't see beyond their religion and look at this as a SECULAR issue. There are many, many Muslim men named Mohammed...do they all behave like the prophet? I rest my case. PEACE!

it is NOT a biblical name.

Geesh read the Qur'an and find out for yourself why these people who worship the man Muhammed love to beat women and people who do not worship Muhammed up.

She is getting lashed..probably as we write here she is getting this horrible punishment on her ..lashes are done with a whip.. which often slice the living skin open..infections ... horrible pain and possibly death.. And by the way some in Islam are actually calling for this poor FEMALE teacher to be put to death for blaspheming Muhammed because she named a cute teddy bear ( named for Theodore Roosevelt ) Muhammed to JOIN her students together in LOVE and understanding ..

Pray for the poor woman. She may not survive.

AND STOP SAYING IT IS A BIBLICAL NAME. IT IS NOT AND WILL NEVER BE.

This is a complete fabrication of laws brought up by their government. They obviously want to make an example out of somebody. Who better than an English female?

The entire religion is composed of weak-minded individuals anyway. These are basically intelligent people, who read the Koran and yet still let some extremist dictate to them what his version of the reading means. Then they follow this moron around and do what he says, even if it completely contradicts what they read in scripture.

If they want to punish someone, why not start with PEOPLE named Mohammed who commit real crimes like rape, murder, and theft? Maybe the list is too long.

You aren't allowed to name an object after Mohamed. I can't say I agree with this rule but that's the rule. Unfortunately, it was the children who named the bear, not the teacher. Lovely world we live in.

Apparently, "muhammed" is an idol and a sacred object of worship in islam.

It's a crime to name certain things "muhammed". Oh, and it's also an "insult" to islam.

Problem is, it's okay to name SOME things "muhammed".

Is there a list of the OKAY things or a list of the NOT OKAY things? Doesn't appear to be. It's left up to the "courts" to decide who to hand, lash or imprison for these heinous crimes.
