i know non-Christians celebrate Christmas. but if (more than likely) there are athiests that do celebrate it, why do you/they do it knowing the reason Christmas is being celebrated in the first place? Jesus' birth
i'm just wondering, i'm not trying to start anything with anyone on here.

Please learn about the origins of Christmas.

And this question must have been asked a few thousand times.

38 times with the Christian spelling 'athiests'

31 times with the strange singular/plural hybrid Christian spelling 'athiest'

265 with the spelling 'atheists'

etc

This is interesting too:

It just so happens for Atheists, just like for non-Christians, that we do not have a choice at "Christmas holidays" as there are some federal ones and a lot of businesses close down or slow down at that time. So hence it is logical to take time off in order to maximize the annual holidays you get.
However, if you are asking if I give presents, that has nothing to do with your religious holidays, the presents are a Hallmark holiday. If you are implying that the presents are to celebrate Christ's birthday, then you must be lots of fun at anyone elses birthday as you give yourself presents. How strange that is. Christmas is mirrored also after even more ancient pagan rituals and celebrations at that time of the year, that was copied by Christianity. So really I am not celebrating your religious holiday, but the pagan celebrations that you are copying.

What is more interesting is that Christians celebrate Christmas. Jesus was not born on Dec. 25th. More like July.

What we call Christmas is really the Roman holiday of Saturnalia. Saturn was the god of the sun. The week of Dec 21 was celebrated as the return of the sun (since it's the winter solstice). Days begin to get longer.

So basically Christians are celebrating the return of the SUN (not the return of the son).

The origins of Christmas as we know it are decidedly un-Christian. Also, I (an Agnostic) celebrate Christmas for the tradition. It's my favorite time of year, so regardless of what you call it and why, I love this holiday! I love going out in search of presents for people. It's a treat for me, as much as eating dinner together, opening the presents, decorating, and telling old family stories. Christmas for me has nothing to do with Jesus.

I'm sure there are, because Christmas is as much a secular holiday now as it is a religious one.

I celebrate Christmas every year, but I don't believe in God or that Jesus was the son of God.

Oh, for sure. Would it surprise you that there are millions of Christians that celebrate Christmas, but not as the birthday of Christ but as any other secular holiday, like the 4th of July?

lets get this straight christmas is Nothing but a pagan holiday. Have you not noticed how many lies surround christmas??? Many will come and Decieve Many. the odds of christ actually being born on that day is 1 in 365 and I would not like to place that bet with those odds. Blind being lead by the blind

Partly because I love winter. Also, Christmas is in no way Jesus's birthday. I like to spend time with my family, do you as a christian use any of the Pagan traditions surrounding Christmas?

I celebrate the feast of the winter solstice. As has been done in the northern hemisphere on Dec 24 for thousands of years before Christianity.

read down a few questions and you'll see its been asked within the past 15 f&cking minutes. learn the history of Christmas and you'll discover that they likely DO celebrate it (albeit without the religious b$)- if for no other reason than good times with family and friends.

Christian ripped off "christmas" from the pagans. Jesus was born in the Spring season.

So the question is, why do christians celebrate christmas???
