I am going to a community college to become a Radiologist Technician. I finished all my prerequisite class I need for the program, now I just have to apply in January and see if I am accepted into the program. So basically I can take this next semester off. However, I would like to take a computer graphics course. I already have money for this coming up semester to pay for it with my financial aid, but I was told by a financial aid lady at my school that it’s not a good idea to take courses that are not involved with your program (she was being a total rude *****). Does taking a class that is not involved with my program mean that I will get less financial aid money next year when I’m actually in the program?

Each year (usually Fall semester through fall semester) you get a set amount. Say $3000 so if you have used $2000 you have $1000 left until next fall when you can reapply for FAFSA. If you run out of money before then you will have to pay the difference for any classes you take.

There is a limit on the number of hours you can attempt before financial aid cuts you off from getting fin aid. Their logic is you should have a degree after so many hours.

Many people who take extra classes not related to their degree reach that upper limit of hours and get the fin aid cut off a semester or two BEFORE they receive their degree. Trust me you'd be a lot madder if she told you that little tidbit of information so close to graduation. She just doesn't want this to happen to you. (or most likely, be the one who has to break this news to you in a few years as she has had to do to others like you).
Good Luck.
Ask the fin aid offices Satisfactory Academic Progress policy to see if you are close to the cut off.

You should have a few electives, and that's what you can take for your elective. As long as you get all the required courses for your major in the required number of semesters (4?), she can't prevent you from taking that type of course, unless the school itself has some strange requirement. Check with the ACADEMIC counselor, not the financial aid counselor.
