I just want to understand why dont you guys feel that God doesn't exist or that its highly unprobable that He does...
You say that its because you cant see Him and that there is no proof.
Also you say that the bible is false and has no facts in it and therefore cannot be 'accepted'.
But.......????
You cant see love,,....but that exist...right.
If you really think about how detailed us as human beings are, do you really think it was all by chance?
And as for the bible, there is a lot of facts about the earth, and events that happen on earth that are documented in it, which validates that it was inspired by God. For example in the book of Job when he was inspired to say that the earth was a sphere.... That wasn't discoverd until thousands of years later...
What is it that makes you feel that there is no God?

All right, I'm not an atheist, but I should point out some flaws in your reasoning, because I'm sure somebody else will:

"As detailed as human beings are, do you really think it was all by chance?"
Why not? The universe is awfully large and awfully old. Why wouldn't such a thing be possible? And who said it was by chance? Just because we don't see a pattern doesn't mean none exists. And that logic comes very close to "I can't explain it, therefore it must be God." The problem is, people used to be unable to explain comets, sunspots, earthquakes, etc. So they attributed it all to God (or gods). Just because you can't explain something today doesn't mean you'll never be able to explain it.

"Lots of facts about the earth...are documented in the Bible, which validates that it was inspired by God."

Lots of falsehoods about the earth are also documented in the Bible. In Joshua 10, Joshua tries to preserve daylight by commanding the Sun to stand still in the sky. The problem is, Joshua could've ordered the sun to do a triple back-flip and it wouldn't have stopped the day-night cycle on earth...that depends on our planet's rotation, not the movement of the sun. God would know that...but obviously the author of Joshua did not.

"The earth is a sphere...wasn't discovered until thousands of years later..."

You're badly overestimating the age of the Book of Job. It was written only about 2,700 years ago, and many people already speculated about the round shape of the earth (since the earth casts a round shadow on the moon during an eclipse).

As I said, I'm not an atheist, but I would encourage you to re-examine your logic.

I can see love.

I can measure hormonal changes. I can measure activity in the brain. I can see the way people treat each other.

No. Complex humans did not come about by chance. But then evolution is not a random process. I would strongly suggest that you read a good book about evolution before jumping to the wrong conclusions about it.

The first 'life' was not by chance either, it followed well defined chemical laws.

There is a lot in the bible that is just plain wrong. Tyre is a populated city despite Ezekiel's prophecies. Bats are not birds, PI is not 3.0, hares are not ruminants, all despite what the bible says.

Many events that are described in the Odyssey and the Iliad are documented as fact. Does that validate the existence of Zeus, Aphrodite etc?

What would it take for you to accept that unicorns are real? There are lots of books describing them, why is that not enough?

Why do you accept the existence of god when there is no compelling evidence (and there is no compelling evidence when you look at it dispassionately) but not accept the existence of unicorns, dragons, leprechauns, etc.

Well we don't personally know what it is you felt, but from the atheist standpoint we'd say you've experienced a mass induced psychosis. It is quite a commonly accepted psychological phenomenon. People in large groups can become emotionally charged rather easily. Also you have to realize that church services are programmed to elicit that specific response from the audience.

You obviously don't understand evolution. Life didn't start by "chance" no scientist will claim that. Science believes life started by a chemical reaction and evolved and adapted to the environment thru natural selection.

You're wrong about the book of Job. You're talking about Job 26:7. I don't know which bible version you use but the most modern and understandable version is the NLT. The NLT version of Job 26:7 states:

"He spreads out the northern skies over empty space;
he suspends the earth over nothing."

Nowhere in that verse does it say anything about a sphere or even a circle. If I have the wrong verse I challenge you to find the correct one. However there is another verse Isaiah 40:22 which according to the NLT version says:

"He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to live in."

It says "circle" of the earth, not sphere. There's a HUGE difference. A circle is no more a sphere in scripture than it is in geometry. If what you claim is true then why did the church toss Galileo in prison for claiming that the earth was a sphere and the sun revolved around the earth? If they already knew it was a sphere they would have agreed with him.

Another argument you made is about "love". Love is an emotion not a supernatural being there's no basis of comparison.

To answer your question about why we don't believe in your god. Well why don't you believe in Zeus, or Thor? Same reason I don't believe in your god... no evidence. If you think humanity is evidence of your god that's a presupposition. You PRE-SUPPOSE the existence of your god, assign him the power to create humans and then use humanity as evidence of your god's existence. That would be like me pointing to a TV set and saying I built it out of popsicle sticks. I'd be assigning myself the ability of being able to build a TV set out of popsicle sticks and using the TV set as "proof". The only difference is you could actually investigate the TV set and see that it's made of parts other than popsicle sticks and clearly says it was made by "Sony" on it. Science can't investigate evidence of your god.

There's the riddle of Epicurus:

Is God willing to prevent evil, but but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able or willing? Then why call him "God"?

Therefore an all knowing, all powerful, all loving God of your description is logically impossible.

Another thing... in your bible God directly ordered the deaths of over 2 million people. This is NOT counting 65 ENTIRE CITIES. Not counting those that died from his various plagues, and not counting the entire population of the world with the "great flood". The only people Satan killed in the bible was Job's children and that was after God said it was okay.

God in your bible is constantly surprised by human actions. How can and all-knowing god be surprised by anything we do and get angry with us when we're simply following his "master plan" that he has laid down for us in the first place?

Do the actions of your god really make sense to you or doesn't he sound like a spoiled 8 year old?

God didn't create humans... Humans created God.

The same that makes you feel that there is. These are all abstract/complex ideas and i doubt you can provide enough evidence for either side.

There is no feeling involved. you believe or dont believe. There is scientific evidence either way. I just find it pretty ridiculcous you would only justify God's presence with some anecdotes in some book and a couple of feelings you have. I would think its a bit more than that. And us by chance? Whats wrong with the bioogy of it all. Is it so hard to believe in adaptation by natural selection? Is it hard to read facts that yes, organsims do evolve and adapt BY CHANCE and it may as well be the same chance that made us who we are? We are all organism. we weren't just loped on the earth by God. even if this is true, what about science?

How do you know love exists? I know what I consider to be love. But it might be different then what you consider. We as a society have come up with a word that we agreed on but that doesn't mean we ever know what it means for the person next to us. Emotions are up for debate because they are intangible. So God is up for debate. Atheists have taken the position that God does not exist. As for humans. Why is it more likely that a supreme being created them? Humans have evolved (that is a fact) slowly over many, many, many years. If a supreme being were involved why did it take so long? Why wouldn't he see defects and poof change them? Why would he not see the need for the cure for AIDS and poof make it happen? I know that if I had this many mistakes in my work I would be fired.

I don't think there is anything wrong with believing in God. It's just not my cup of tea.

I am not an atheist, but you have a BIG boo boo up there.

Job speaks of the ancient Hebrew view of the earth and it was not a spheroid shape..he used the word for circle..the flat disc of the earth that was believed supported by the "pillars of heaven" and had various levels of heaven above it in a dome shape.

The Hebrew word he would have used had he intended a ball or spheroid shape is dur not khug, the word for circle there used.

Job also has some other problems with modern scientific knowledge, but that is enough for the purposes of this post.

The early church also used the ancient Hebrew view of earth to try to reject the knowledge of others who considered the earth a sphere shape, but that was not universally accepted even then..the medieval church DID use the Hebrew Bible's concept of the sun revolving around the earth rather than the earth going around the sun to demonize and condemn astronomers for far longer.

So..using the Bible to convince an atheist just won't work. Subjective reports won't work for someone who must have their own physical evidence or convincing subjective experience.

Sadly, I think my above explanation right there may be beyond you.

I just do my best and leave the rest to God. You might find life easier if you just try to live your faith and let others alone with what they want to believe. If your path is valid, your life will reflect that.

And by thousands of years later you mean, of course, a few hundred years BC with the ancient greeks.

"And as for the bible, there is a lot of facts about the earth, and events that happen on earth that are documented in it, which validates that it was inspired by God."

By that reasoning,

Gone with the Wind, Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, and any number of other books were also inspired by God.

And maybe they were, but obviously having an inspiration is not the same thing as writing facts.

The Greeks knew the earth was a sphere long before Jesus was born; they even had a fairly accurate idea of how big it was.

So you are saying that god, like love, is nothing more than an emotion? An abstract construct of the human mind? I am so glad that you are accepting what atheists believe. God is imaginary.

You say that the world was prove to be a sphere by Job.

Also in Job is this little bit.

9:6 Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

That is one of the arguments that was used to say that the earth was flat and that the earth was stationary and that the sun revolved around the planet.

Or these little gems.
39:13 Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
39:14 Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
39:15 And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
39:16 She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not her's: her labour is in vain without fear;
39:17 Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

Ostriches are actually very good parents that take care of their eggs. The bible is obviously wrong on this count.

I am actually curious, which part of Job says that the earth is a sphere? Please supply us with the correct passage. Right now, it looks like Job has more wrong than correct.

I'll take a double Jack Daniels on the rocks for this one.

Us as humans beings are in fact pretty detailed...lol...but to say that "God" is the explanation for all that detail is simply the lazy man's way out of the problem. You're just writing "God" for the unknown "X."

No matter how you try to sophisticate your creationism, that's the bedrock flaw in the argument. You come up against the limits of human knowledge on the subject, throw up your hands, and say "God must've done this, because I don't get it!" Not good enough for anybody who actually cares about the truth.

As for the Bible, it's a collection of folklore. You say that the author of Job said the earth was a sphere - which is just plain untrue; in fact, he speaks of "the ends of the earth," and a sphere has no ends! - but even supposing he had, do you actually believe that it would constitute "proof" that the book was inspired by God? If so, you simply have no idea what "proof" means. Many other men had postulated that the earth was a sphere, but you would deny them divine inspiration because they weren't Biblical authors. In the final analysis, you believe in the Bible because you believe in the Bible. There is not the slightest rational ground for valuing it over any other "holy" text, or none.
