I suspect many of you know the case I'm talking about, but if not here's a link:

It seems like the kids named the bear. Why is the teacher being punished?

For the record, I don't think anybody deserves punishment. But I do think it seems unfair to punish the teacher and not the children who named the bear. If they punish her, they should punish everybody.

I agree with you about the children - on technical grounds. After all, the teacher is new to the country, culture and extremely different laws. The children are Muslim and grew up there.
I wonder how many of the involved families will convert to a religion other than Islam....

Because the teddy bear is an inanimate object; this is considered an insult to the prophet.
FYI, even if the bear was real, the teacher would still be in trouble. Naming an animal after the prophet is also a no-no, since humans are higher in Allah's creation than animals. To name a lesser being after the prophet would be an insult.

It's hard for me to believe that we live in a world where people punish others by hitting them with a stick. We're stuck in the Dark Ages.

Out of all the places that need teachers, why do they go to countries that do not have even basic human rights for all, women no vote, no voice, no lives: children no hope, men who follow murderers and make them hero's :(

Well, if islamic law has precedent, then they're probably going to be sentenced to public lashing and prison time.
Let's just make EVERYONE a criminal! Woohoo!

Because they are innocent of any actual crime because they haven't reached the age of accountablity in Islam which is 10 years old. Therefore they don't know right from wrong and can't be punished.
