Hi i have a kitten she is about 7 months old. She is an indoor cat, lastnight she woke me up in the early hours she was sick she hadnt had any food for a good 7 hours but threw biscuits up. I cleaned up then went back to bed, in the morning i fed her some biscuits and went to the cattery for a couple of hours when i got back she had thrown them up too. I fed her a little handful of biscuits at 5 and shes just thrown them up too. I dont get it though cause shes begging soooo bad for food shes not off her food at all. Shes still playing around too and is lively. Shes on dry food only and has been wormed and de-flead. Any one have any idea what the problem could be? Im getting worried cause if its something serious i dont know how im going to afford it as im a full time student again. Shes like a child to me i love her so much and dont like to see her not being able to eat specially as she loves her food.

Hi there. I have adolescent 7 month old kittens, and one was blowing chunks a few weeks ago. I locked him up without food for 24 hrs but with plenty of water. Yes, he cried pitifully. The next day I gave him a tiny amount of kitten kibble, waited a couple of hours then gave him a bit more. When he succeeded in holding that down for another couple of hours, I let him go back to eat with the rest and he was fine. My reasoning for this was that the vomiting was too stressful for him and he'd end up hungry anyway. I guess he had a little tummy bug.
If this had not worked, I would have immediately taken him to the vet and worked out a payment plan. It might mean committing yourself to nothing but canned beans for a while but if you are like me, you'll believe it's worth it to save your precious furry child. Good luck and please post how it turns out. (hug)

I have 2 house cats aged 1 1/2 yrs and 8 months.
The older one is sometimes sick after eating the dry food, this can be because they gobble it down too fast and the stomach can not cope then they bring it back up (I have had her checked by the vet and they said she is fine)
I would also recommend that you give your cat a mixture of dry & wet food (not mixed together and introduce the wet food very little at a time and slowly...if you do it to quickly it will give her the runs.
I can tell that you love your cat dearly but you should not have a pet if you can't afford to take it to the vet when needed, sounds harsh I know but you have to put the animals welfare first and if they need to see a vet then it is your responsibility to do so.
Try getting pet insurance, Tesco's is between £5 -£6 per month and will take that worry of large vet bills from you.
You said that she is begging for food then it could be as I said that she is eating it too fast.....sounds that you are not feeding her enough if you are only giving her a handful of biscuits (also make sure that the dry food is a 'complete' food, so she is getting all the viamins etc that she needs) having said that though I am not a vet and the only person that can really help you I'm affraid is a vet.
You said she has been wormed & de-flead....has she had her 9 & 12 weeks jabs? if not you HAVE to get them done.
Good luck xx

From what you have said it does sound as though she may have a fur ball.
Don't keep giving her dry food. It obviously doesn't agree with her. I have to assume that you are using KITTEN biscuits. If you are using some of the cheaper biscuits they may have too much salt. You haven't mentioned having water available at all times. This is very important.

Generally the vets will suggest boiled colley as a bland diet.

You may not realise that some chats are allergic to cow's milk.

You should see a VET. If you can't afford the local ones, then contact the Cat Protection League ( they are in the phone book and they can help you find a vet)

It could just be a mild attack of enteritis. Try soaking the biscuits in some hot water to make them soft- they might stay down better this way. Or try some fresh chicken.
Was the wormer you gave her effecti ve agains roundworms? These are the ones kittens commonly suffer with. There is no one product, even those prescribed by the vet, that kills everything. Drontal only kills a few worms. Bob Martin only kills tapeworms, and stronghold only kills roundworms and another very rare type of worm. You'll need to use a combination to kill all worms. Plus, wormers are not preventative. They only kill the worms in the cat at the time of administering it. They could become reinfected the very next day!
Take her to the vet, as it might be something else such as a blockage, or illness.

Please stop feeding dry foods

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?
http://www.catinfo.org/#Learn_How_To_Read_a_Pet_Food_Ingredient_Label
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process them. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bpo_ch4a.php

Watch her closely. If she gets less lively or starts acting sick at all, please take her to the vet immediately. Young animals will appear to be well until they reach a critical point, at which it goes downhill quickly...so don't delay. Even though you're a student, you have responsibility for this animal. Is she still drinking OK? You might try taking her off her food for a day and just making sure she's drinking to give her stomach a chance to settle down. You could also try some homeopathic ipecac.

When our cat is sick we don't feed her for 24hrs and she's always is fine after that, but with such a small cat this small it might not be a good idea. Personally i would take her to the nearest vets. It may be nothing, but cats can get serious illnesses (like cat flu) just like humans, so its probably best to get it checked out, particually if it doesn't stop after a day or so.

well it seems that your cat is hungry but unable to keep food down. This could mean some form of blockage in the esophagus or upper part of the stomach.
The ONLY thing to do in this instance is to take her to the vet. Speak with the vet and see if there is something that can be done to arrange payment but Please take her to the vet

Could be a number of things. Watch her closely and take to vet if she doesn't improve. A stomach or intestine blockage, will cause this. (some animal will eat, silk plants, blanket corners, hair balls, etc etc.) This can cause some serious intestinal problems if blood supply is interrupted. to the VET.

keep watching her closely, but try changing the type of biscuits you are feeding. maybe she has gone off of them for some reason. if she doesn't improve soon, or you are still worried, take her to the vets, just to be on the safe side.
