If they were born or raised there, why would they remain there? The North and West are more unbelieving then the South.

Southern pride? Home gets in the blood, even if you move away.

Another major reason is money: housing and costs of living are much cheaper in the South. Compare the costs of houses in California to those in Alabama and you might have an answer, it's astounding.

I'm a nonbeliever and I'm looking to move back to the South (I was born there) because of the cost of housing. I'll manage to find heathens and pagans no matter where I go. It won't be as easy as in California or New York but I'll manage. There's always the internet until I do.

The weather is so nice down south. And even though I'm in the middle of the "Bible Belt" I have many atheist friends here (as well as theist friends).

I'm a nonbeliever, and I'm here in the Bible Belt, well, because I was born here. Perhaps if I had a large amount of money I would move. Care to donate?

I'm a non-believer and I was born and raised in Texas. I'm not going to leave just because someone disagrees with me. This is my home. My family is here.
I've lived in the NW and came home. Just because the area is more liberal doesn't make it home. Would you want to leave your family and home because your neighbors didn't believe as you?

I don't believe in God and I just moved to the bible belt from Cali because the cost of living is cheaper.

Im a non-believer and I moved to the 'bible belt.'

I admit, I am surrounded by people who I dont see eye to eye with, but thats fine with me. Most people here are very nice, and I never get into religious discussions. The real world is not like R&S where we all say whatever we please due to our relative online anonimity.

Generally I like it down here, great weather, good people, etc. And its not like I have religion shoved down my throat.

Someone needs to vote against the crazy blue laws that inhibit our freedoms. Religious folk can not be free to run wild without opposition.

North Carolina - winters are not too cold and summers are not too hot.

Also there are some good tech jobs to be had in certain locations.

I live in the South because that's where my family and heritage are, not to mention my wife, house, business and cats.
