Homosexuals can't fall romantically in love with members of the opposite sex. Anyhow, this could be construed as a "gender inequality" issue. A man can marry a woman, but not a man. Why does only a woman get the right to marry a man? And why does a man get the right to marry a woman, but a woman doesn't? Why the inequality? Why don't they have equal rights?
By the way, marriage isn't just a piece of paper; there are over 1,000 rights, responsibilities and privileges that come along with marriage.
Bringing your deity into the picture when it has to do with THE LEGALITY of same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. Your god has no business butting into legal affair, so sayeth the Constitution of the United States of America.

I'd like to see some statistics proving a causal relationship between the lack of a father figure and imprisonment.
Ask any child if they would rather have two desserts than dinner. They'll say yes. Does that prove that children should have two desserts and skip dinner? No.
Also, ask the child of gay male parents whether they think it's better to have two daddies or a mommy and a daddy. I think you'll be surprised by the response.
Marriage is not for the protection of children. Children would be protected even if the mother and father were unmarried but remained together. Marriage is for property rights.

My parents are hell on wheels together but have stayed married for 38 years. As a child, it was actually quite anxiety producing to have my mom screaming at my dad without provocation. Children are better off with happy parents who love them even if those parents aren't together. Interesting, many people I have known have had fathers around and still got in trouble. I am sure that there is evidence for what you claim but it is not the rule. Let's see, what rights are you stopping. You're stopping them from life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It's none of your business as to what other adults do, is it? If a child is loved it doesn't matter if there are two mothers or two fathers. I know because I've seen very happy children with gay couples. Have you ever even met a gay couple with a child? Are you married? Marriage is far more than protection for children, far more and no one should STAY married for the sake of the children. That's what screws children up.

If that's all there is to marriage, then why not just get rid of all the legal and financial benefits that the government has attached to it? And how would allowing homosexuals to marry harm other marriages or families in any conceivable way? Finally, as to your first point, many states do not even have civil union laws, and if a homosexual wants to marry, they wouldn't be "choosing" a member of their own sex any more than you'd be "choosing" a member of the opposite sex. They'd just be choosing the person they love and want to share their life with. How is that a problem for anyone?

*ideal* parents are few and far between. By your logic single parent households should be banned. Homosexuals can be long term relationships but are not offered the same rights from the government. Homosexuals are raising children. I know one couple who adopted two girls (ages 3 and 6) from a terrible situation where their father was molesting them and the mother was given a choice of leaving him or losing her girls and she gave them up. They are now happy, willing to give hugs and safe. I think if we are truly concerned about children then perhaps we should judge people on an individual basis rather than by sexual orientation. I am sure if these girls were given a choice of returning to their heterosexual parents or staying in their adoptive homosexual parents they would choose the place where they are safe, loved and happy.

It's not Christians, it's the LAW, that make it so Homosexuals can't marry! They have other rights to protect them regarding estate planning. As a paralegal I have worked with gay couples regarding these protections.
Personally I am strongly AGAINST gay marriage. However, these good people deserve protection.
Marriage, by tradition, has always been between a man and a woman. That's the way God intended marriage to be. This is the same God for the Christians, Jews and Muslims.

You're right everyone has the right to love and marry who they choose. G-d is never going to take that choice away from us.It doesn't matter who the two parents of a child are as long as they are loving and provide for that child the best they can.

Hundreds!
If it is true as you assert that marriage should be reserved for children, why do we allow the following people to marry?
Infertile couples
Couples who choose not to raise children
Couples who want to adopt rather than procreate
Your assumption that children want a mom and a dad is unsubstantiated. Children deserve loving parents, regardless of sex or gender.
Every scientific study has demonstrated that children raised by same sex couples are no more likely to turn out homosexual than those raised by heterosexual couples.
Here is a short list of rights bequeathed to heterosexuals but not homosexuals:
tax advantages
retirement benefits
hospital visitation
adoption rights
insurance
choice of occupation
choice of housing
choice of schooling
Those who say history has reserved marriage for one man and one woman have not read much history. Marriage has traditionally been about property rights (inheritance, etc) and has nothing to do with children. Marriage has been about a man "owning" a woman.
For further study, see "Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe" by John Boswell.

"Marriage" IS a civil union. (Licensed by the STATE)
It comes with a whole bunch of rights besides the right to have miserable in-laws!
Why should straight people be the only ones subjected to that?
