I guess you would have to ask God.

Since all kids do for Christmas now is want things, and we focus it around decorations, lights, and a tree, God probably does not like that the majority of families or people dont center the holiday around Jesus. Jesus is the real reason, in a Christian's perspective, that we celebrate Christmas

Now this question is great. I think God is disappointed when we miss Christ. Even those of us who are believers, can get so caught up in the "glintz and tinsel" that we forgot that Jesus should be the reason for the season- Actually Jesus should be the reason for EVERY season. I do not think He thinks that giving and getting gifts is wrong, unless, the gifts become the most important part of Christmas. Even Christmas can be an idol, when Christ is not central.

Jer 10:1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
Jer 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
Jer 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
Jer 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. but the giving is a good thing. and thanking about others is good. but to be drunk or hatefull is not of God.

Read the story about Moses going up to get the tablets. Pay attention to what his followers did while they waited and what happened to them. Christmas is the same thing.
He does not approve of traditions brought over from other places. And christmas is clearly pagan origin.
Colossians 2:8
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after the Messiah.
He even mentions the tree
Ezekiel 6:13
Then shall ye know that I am YHWH, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, upon every high hill, in all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the place where they did offer sweet savour to all their idols.
Jeremiah 3:6
YHWH said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

he would say many of you have lost the focus and celebrate materialism over the real meaning.......I never buy gifts or do anything other than get together with friends and family.....but I am not christian, so that has nothing to do with god's approval.

Who knows, you would have to ask him. I am too busy buying presents and a tree to worry about God at this time of the year. (I am being sarcastic for those of you who are easily offended and take everything way too seriously. Besides, I'm a preacher's kid, I'm supposed to answer like that, LOL).

I don't think God really cares. I'm assuming God has more important things to worry about.

Who knows? I don't think many have had the opportunity to discuss it with him. Just make the most of Christmas, enjoy your family and have fun.
